This was in my email this morning: PBS is doing a poll which asks if Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP. The right wing has organized a yes campaign and are storming the PBS NOW poll voting for Sarah Palin's fitness to serve as president and right now the yes vote is winning! Please vote and pass this on to your e-mails lists. Please take literally 2 seconds, go to http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html and vote. Thanks!
Why would the "right wing" want to rig an unscientific internet poll? And, why would we want to stop them?
Yea, in two hours this thread has 4 responses. Wow, how left leaning is that? ...but no mention from you about why the right is trying to stuff ballot boxes on some random internet poll.
1. The intent of the thread was to seek voters who would vote for her as not qualified; why come here if you don't expect to find people who will vote that way? You have no idea how many voted in the poll that way-- only how many posted responses here. 2. As SF said, everybody does it and this counter-measure is quite common I'm sure
There is no indication that anyone is conspiring to stuff the ballot box of this stupid poll, other than an anonymous bs email. It is possible there is a thread somewhere in a right-leaning BBS with a link to this poll and some message to urge people to vote Qualified. I'm not sure that counts as a right-wing yes campaign. I'd rather think this was a viral marketing stunt pulled off by PBS to increase traffic on their site. As for everybody stuffing ballot boxes of meaningless unscientific internet polls -- I only do it when "Houston Rockets" is one of the choices.
... except for the email that he received. My point was that he hastened here with a request to overwhelm the poll, which if he felt he were alerting as many or more Righties as Lefties he would never do. As the pollster him/herself said, "This is an unscientific poll."
I'm not sure what cson's motivations were. But, I will readily agree with you that the D&D is left-leaning. However, that doesn't keep this whole battle to win a meaningless poll from being dumb.
Q: Is it fair or is it sexist to question Gov. Palin's technical qualification to be Vice President? A: Michele Bachmann: Examining a Vice-Presidential nominee's political record and legislative accomplishments is not sexist in the least, as long as the questions are actually about her qualifications. With that said, if you look at Barack Obama's record and qualifications and compare them to Sarah Palin's, I don't think there's any question that she is more qualified to be our top executive than he is—and he's the one running for President. PBS Online Debate about Sarah Palin's Qualifications. http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/436/debate.html The Kool Aid is extra strong today.
Why is a thread about making us vote in a PBS poll in the D&D? SHouldn't it be in the Hangout? It's a POLL, gosh darn it... we ain't gonna D&D'it.
Wrong. I thought if I posted this in the D & D, everyone, of every political stripe, who enjoys "voicing" their opinion, while wanking it at the computer, like the dipshat that sent me this, would have another site to visit. P.S. You are welcome.
"without question" she is more qualified? Wasilla has a population of 6,000 and she has never traveled outside of North America. McCain listed her PTA experience on her resume. She herself said she doesn't know what a VP does. I'd say the "without question" statement is questionable.
I call B.S. Here's what you wrote: "PBS is doing a poll which asks if Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP. The right wing has organized a yes campaign and are storming the PBS NOW poll voting for Sarah Palin's fitness to serve as president and right now the yes vote is winning! Please vote and pass this on to your e-mails lists." You were patently trying to mobilize a leftward-leaning assault on the PBS site to overcome what you perceived someone else was doing. OMG-- the YES vote was winning!!!!!!!! No need to thank me when you are so busy trying to cover your tracks...
Okay, I have no reason to doubt you... but it wasn't that clear that you were distancing yourself from the message. Even posting it without qualification seems a promotion of it... i.e. you didn't use the describer "dipshat" in your initial post. Sorry if I wrongly accused you.
Wow, what a surprise. The Republican U.S. Rep from Minnesota is supporting the Republican V.P. candidate? Surely not! This is front page stuff. Let's face it: people who want the GOP in control (TJ, giddyup, basso) are going to look at her and see what they want. People who want the Dems in control will look at her and see what they want. But people who are undecided are looking at her, looking at the facts, and realizing that she is grossly underqualified to serve as the second-in-command to the leader of the free world.
In fairness, no new President or Vice President (and some previous ones) are "qualified" for that position. Palin is just far, far, less qualified than most.
