So I got a call earlier today from some kind of debt collection service saying I owe them 100 dollars for paypal charges dating back to may 2005.

I asked can you tell me why I owe them 100 dollars, I'm in college making 6 dollars an hour. I'm not going to fork over 100 dollars w/o an explanation. They asked if I wanted their # I was like no yall work this out and than come back to me. End of Covo.

    So two questions

    1. Has anybody had experience similar to this?

    2. If this is legit and I don't pay how bad will it mess up my credit history?

That should be the only blunder. Apartments wont reject ya for just a few blunders right?

I'm not paying it anyway if its legit. I dont understand how I can possibly owe them money. PayPal is just a service I used to buy stuff off ebay.

Did you have an outstanding charge? If so... work out a payment to avoid credit hit.

    If not. It's a scam.

It's a scam. Paypal debits directly from your bank account. If you owed money, they would take it. Check your balance online.

If they call again, ask them for an address or account info so you can give it to the cops after you hang up.
