OK, I got this email that looks like a phishing scam from someone: I know this sh*t is a scam, because look at the URL it sends you to (warning, DO NOT login there). Normally I just ignore these emails, but this one actually has my NAME in it. That's very weird. I've never had a phishing email that identified my name before. Does this mean someone has broken into Paypal's database? Or does this merely mean that some worm has hacked into one of my friends' mailboxes and obtained my name that way.
Hmm...I don't know. I'd contact paypal and link them directly to that image. It's definitely fraudulent though. Look at the misspellings: "choise" "temporaly"
Hmm.... good point at the spelling. I emailed Paypal (their call center is off right now), but I think at most they can do is confirm that this email is a fraud (which we're pretty sure it is already). I don't know if Paypal can figure out why this scammer knows my name, though. Damn it Chuck Norris, where are you when I need you?
"Hello? What's that?...vwiggin's in trouble!? I'll be right there." It's ok he was just in the shower.
Here are a couple of phishing guidelines: 1) If you think it's phishing, it probably is. 2) If you don't think it's phishing, it probably still is. I don't even open emails that have paypal anywhere in the sender name/title anymore.
Chucky you complete me ... with a roundhouse kick. arkoe, have you ever received a phishing email with your name in it. This is my first.
There are a few ways that they can get your name... if your name is in your email address then obviously that is a way, or if you have an eBay account there are a few ways they can get it without you being notified.
Thanks Svpernaut, that is pretty helpful. I don't think it is my email address, since I identify myself as T-Macnificient. The Ebay is a definite possibility though. Damn you ebay.
its a phishing scam. I get them all the time. paypal has a special meail set up to forward this stuff to so they can investigate. spoof@paypal.com
That email is a total phishing scam. DO NOT EVER CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE EMAIL. Instead, log into Paypal, click on their tech support, and they have instructions on where to forward the email to. Once you've forwarded it, delete it.
Sometimes I get this type of email from services I do not participate in. It is like they stripped my name from an list of email addresses and just hoped that I actually had a gmail account or some such.
Every time I saw this, I checked my account and it was fine. I have used paypal a few times recently and it worked. I think this is a hoax, but it looks legit. Perhaps it's a bug.
I'v been getting ALOT of these kinds of emails now on as well. Just avoid them and NEVER click on them!
It may or may not be a scam. Go log into your PayPal account and see if it is actually limited. What happened to my account once was somebody else tried to access it so PayPal limited my account. They then sent a letter to my address to verify my location. After receiving and sending the letter back I had to go to my PayPal account and verify my card or bank account that was registered with PayPal. After that I was allowed full access to my PayPal account but I closed that account and opened a new one.
