They had to make up the loss of Ariza somehow... <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>ESPN has learned that Pierce will sign a two-year deal with the Wizards at the mid-level exception with a player option entering Year 2</p>— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/statuses/488170213196988416">July 13, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Sources confirm ESPN report: Paul Pierce to the Wizards for two years, $10M. Pierce wanted to play with Wall and Beal. Solid salvage 4 Wiz.</p>— David Aldridge (@daldridgetnt) <a href="https://twitter.com/daldridgetnt/statuses/488171474243825665">July 13, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Why would Pierce sign with a young team as opposed to a established one? He's too old to be playin for a 6th-8th seed team
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Never forget: Nets gave up three first-rounders and gave Celts right to swap another for Pierce and Garnett. Horrendous signing, he doesn't mesh well with their style of play but I don't care. Deng needs to sign with Atlanta and Stephenson goes back to Indiana leaving the mavs with only Marrion as their only sf option after we match Parsons
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Sources say the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Nets?src=hash">#Nets</a> elected to pass on Pierce and are moving on</p>— Mike Mazzeo (@MazzESPN) <a href="https://twitter.com/MazzESPN/statuses/488174166449729538">July 13, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Great move to replace Ariza for cheap. Sure Pierce isn't near the same player he used to be, but he is at least serviceable if you don't burn him out. He could be a great leader for their young guns in the backcourt and join the Washington Wizards retirement home (previously the residence of wonderfully old veterans Drew Gooden and Andre Miller!!)
