Spoiler 21 Years Young Incredibly High Basketball Intelligence Unbelievably Ripped Sets Excellent Screens Silky Smooth Jumper Fantastic Hands Mistake Free Excellent Wingspan Strong Intangibles Hard, HARD Worker Most importantly, The three things he was knocked for before the draft were... "All-Around Defense" "Defensive Awareness" "Man To Man Defense" I would put forth that these are the three things that he has done the best, and they are one of the main reasons why he is on the court. In my mind, One, or both of Luis and Jordan, are trade bait. Patrick is ready to start. Daryl Morey, Let's get you a top 7-8 pick and see what happens. (HmmHmmm with the beautiful edit!)
HMMM YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Editing original post If you don't mind. I'll make sure to give you the cred...
I didn't know the intention of this thread, but now that I've carefully read through it: I agree. Patrick is ready to start. No need for any of our scrub PF backups. Keep Scola if no one wants to take on his big contract, (Mr Scola is really tired from the World Championships, so his season isn't gonna be any good until something like April. Scola needs rest, ALOT OF REST.) Our backup bigs are too situational. Chuck Hayes is surely good at defense, but whatever can he do? They say defense is half of the game, well, he is a NEGATIVE on offense, and I'm sure offense is half of the game, too. Just ask Luis Scola. Houston needs a firesale. Get rid of Miller to the Magic or the Thunder of something, and let's tank. Get rid of Shane Battier, and just let the young prodigy that is Terrence Williams start.
More threads like this....that is 100% grade A funny. Repped for "thinking outside the box" humor. DD
Patrick is our future at the 4. Maybe borderline allstar level, or most likely a step below, only because his style of play is gritty and fundamental, not the flashy "allstar" type. Whether he makes it or not into that popularity contest matters little. What is really important is his development into a championship caliber role player, which I believe he has every opportunity and ability in the world to. With that said, I would like to hang on to Scola. Don't get me wrong, if we have a target on draft night I would not hesitate to include him in an effort to move up. But more likely, we are probably not going to get full value out of a 30 year old PF who can barely jump over an encyclopedia. That is not to say he does not have value, just that his greatest value is probably to us, the Rockets. He is obviously very effective in our system, and the guy is just a flat out winner. He can hold down the starting spot for at least another 2 years, with Patterson learning the ropes in the meantime. I know Patterson has looked very good at times this year, but allowing him to progress naturally this way takes a lot of pressure off the kid. And then when he is truly ready to step in for Scola, we can bring Luis off the bench for instant offense the last 2 years of his contract, ala Ginobili. I doubt his production would taper off that much, given his style of play. As far as Jordan Hill, I 100% agree. That is trade bait if I ever saw one. My only concern with him now is his rapidly declining value even as fish bait I mean trade bait.
CX, Agreed on both and wouldn't it be nice for PPat to learn some of Scola's scoop moves and footwork? Keeping Luis around for that alone would help a lot. DD
So, we know he can fly high. His rebound rate is indicating that he can pull down 9-10 boards a game if given the minutes. His post defense is already acceptable and his perimeter defense on stretch 4s is already decent. He moves his feet incredibly well. He has a tremendous bball iq, knows how to get free on the pick and pop and pick and roll. All-Star???? Tell me. If he actually develops a three point shot that he can shoot at 40%, what would he be? Now, add another 10-15 pounds of muscle to that staunch frame and what do you have???? Patterson could blossom into an All-Star in the mold of Karl Malone. He'll never be Karl Malone because he doesn't have the 'take no prisoners, play dirty if you have to' mentality. But his body and his movement on the court most closely mimmicks Malone's than anybody I've seen coming into the NBA. If he stays healthy and dedicated, he'll make a couple All-Star appearances.
He had beautiful hair and six fangers on each hand. But I was alone and I didn't have no gun, so I rough talked him. I said, "Git!"
I know it's early, but PP at #14 look to be an absolute steal. Sure, he's a little older than others, but it's clear that he has already reached the potential of what you'd expect a 2nd/3rd year NBA player can be in many areas. The only question now is how much further he can refine his offensive game.
am I the only one who thinks it's wrong to compare a black man to a half-man half-ape? haha, not that pat isn't a beast.
