The football player Pat Tillman who quit the NFL to join the Army is reported to have been killed in fighting in Afghanistan. espn.com is reporting, link later.
This is one selfless guy. He gave his country everything. I hope people stop questioning the heart of someone (Kerry) who served in combat. It's dangerous regardless of their time served or the extent of their injuries that resulted in medals of honor.

The 27-year-old former football player was killed in direct action during a firefight in Afghanistan, Pentagon sources told ABCNEWS. But there were no further details available. A former member of the Arizona Cardinals, Tillman, along with his brother Kevin, enrolled with the U.S. Army Rangers after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Last year, the brothers were awarded an Arthur Ashe Courage Award meant for individuals whose contributions transcend sports. The award was accepted by their younger brother, Richard, while the brothers were away. Tillman, an unrestricted free agent, spurned a $9 million, five-year offer sheet from the St. Louis Rams in 2001 to join the Army. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Tillman was an exceptional student with a 3.84 grade point average through college and graduated summa c*m laude with a degree in marketing. The Tillman family has been notified, according to a Pentagon source.
Way to throw your political views into a thread where they did not belong, dipsh!t. Pat Tillman is a HERO, as are most of the men and women who serve their country everyday.
This man was a true American hero. There are not many who would turn down millions to fight for his country. He deserved a better fate than this. RIP, Pat +
Damn sad. I remember listening to him being interviewed by Jim Rome in 2002, after he made the decision to leave AZ and enlist. I was shocked and stunned. I thought it was dumb at the time, but he had his priorities, and I respect that.
I heard that interview, the guy was so enthusiastic about joining. He really knew that's what he wanted to do.
Man, that's really sad. People are always trying to figure out the true definition of a hero. I think we have our answer.
I commend Pat Tillman and emphasized the sacrifices of people in the military. I brought up Kerry as an example because people are questioning his service as if it was a picnic. They are all brave men and heroes in my book. I don't know what political views you're talking about. So why don't you go to the GARM and complain some more about Yao Ming. YM sucks, wah wah! That is your forte.
Can you people please keep your bickering out of this thread? We're paying tribute to one person alone in this thread. Period. RIP Pat Tillman
It makes me sad that along with many other soldiers, he was one of them that has died. Very sad. My prayers are with his parents and family.
I agree Pat Tillman is a hero. He gave up the American Dream (at least to many of us who dreamed of being a pro athlete) to serve his country.
The true defintion of a hero. A man who willingly devotes his life to what he thinks is right. I hope his story inspires more young Americans. I think the secret to life isn't money or longitivity but the pursuit of positive passions, where a man can proud of himself. Pat Tillman, be proud.
