I was there this morning at University Baptist Church in Waco when during the baptism, our pastor dropped the micophone in the water. It was complete pandemonium, people rushing everywhere, half of the congregation didn't even realize what had happened. AP story UBC website Sometimes I just understand why these kinds of things happen. Please keep the Lake family in your thoughts and prayers. He left behind a wife and two young children
Terrible. His poor family. I can't even fathom how this could happen. Hell, a Mr. Microphone (battery-operated) can't cost that much. What a tragic waste of life.
Why is it that the lady he was baptising was not electrocuted as well? Because it took the path to ground and that didn't include her, I suppose? Such a sad tragedy. Hopefully other pastors will read this and be certain to never use any mic equipment while performing baptisms.
I read this in the news - very sad and depressing. It must have been traumatic to have been there. Prayers for his family and those affected by this...
I was speechless when I first heard about this. I remember chatting with him briefly after he visited/spoke at my church last spring. He seemed like an easy-going & friendly guy. I bought one of his books half a year ago... Understanding God's Will. (It's a pretty good read.)
Has anyone tried to go swimming with their mp3 player....It says water proof for swimming, but I don't think I'd ever do it. Is it safe? Sounds risky to me. Maybe if it got wet it would just burn out, but ****, who am I to know.
Risky as far as getting electrocuted, or risky as far as losing the player to water? There's not enough power from a batter-operated device to electrocute yourself.
I guess as a man of God there is no better place to go out then in the house of the Lord. See you on the flip side my Christian brother!
I'm not sure, but I once heard that the electricity travels across the surface of the water. She mught have been submerged when it happened.
Good heavens. That's horrible! Pastors who do baptisms this way should consider wireless microphones, if they feel they need the amplification. I can't imagine that they would have enough juice to do anything. What a nightmare for the church.
Yeah, when I read the article, my first thought was, "How could a few AA battteries electrocute and kill a guy?" Then I realized he must have had a WIRED microphone. Not smart at all.
That is really sad, but I can't believe he was using a wired microphone. That's like blow drying your hair in a bathtub full of water. Thank goodness no one else in the water was hurt.
