What was embarassing about it? that a 6 foot guard is quicker and has more agility than a 7'6" guy?

what's embarrassing is only having 7 rebounds in 42 minutes when you're 7'6".

What's embarassing is that our guards let everyone drive by them exposing Yao to these ridiculous situations.

Hilarious how people always think height equates to rebounding.

Whats embarassing is you sounding like a typical BSPN writer. What's next, Tmax is soft? or Shebron is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

People need to get it through their heads that the best rebounders are between 6'9" and 7'1". People who are shorter don't have the reach. People who are taller have no leaping ability and are too slow to get there in time. Obviously there are a few exceptions, but it's true for the most part.

Besides Ralph Sampson, nobody 7'3" or taller has managed to average 10+ rebounds season after season. I certainly don't expect Yao to do it...he's just not quick enough.

What's embarrasing is that Rocket's have some really crappy obese fans who think they all could coach the team to a championship.

Yep. Gandy's not going anywhere. He just got a freaking extension this year. Les loves him. Mcgrady loves him. Yao wants to cuddle with him. The only person that doesn't like him is Satan, who loves that buddhist dude with a mustache in La La land.

desire/determination equates to rebounding... height just makes it easier...

Being quick enough helps a lot on offensive rebounds, but as far as defensive rebounds are concerned, watch the way Yao boxes out.... he doesn't box out bec in China he's so much taller that he doesn't have to but here in the NBA, ppl can jump and steal rebounds from him.. instead of jumping he needs to just to a freakin basic box out....watch the way he rebounds and you will see what i'm talking about

How does obesity affect one's ability to coach or ability to be a fan? There are lots of fat coaches out there, and as a fat fans, me and Charles Barkley take offense to your comment.

I'm sure, as an undiscovered NBA prospect, who would surely be a underwear model if it wasn't for his LeBron-like gift for the game, you didn't mean to imply that a sport can only truely be enjoyed by the athletic and physical elite?

That's new to me. I always thought that quickness, strength, leaping ability, arm length, timing, and height and maybe bunch of others equates to rebounding. Thank you for giving me hope that I can be a great rebounder as well, if I show some desire and determination behind a monitor.

Yeah well, what you see and what I see are different. A good rebounder can box out, and then leap and grab the rebound when the ball comes near him.

Yao boxes out well enough most of the time, but unfortunately he can't go from "boxing out" to "grabbing the rebound" quickly enough. That's why I frequently see Yao boxing out his man and then letting one his teammates grab the rebound.

If you want numbers, I'll give them to you. Below is a listing of the tallest people to ever play in the NBA (except for Ralph Sampson). If you normalize the number of minutes they play Yao's rebounding averages are actually towards the top of the list.

Rebounds per 40 minutes (career averages)
    Arvydas Sabonis 7'3" - 12.1
    Gheorghe Muresan 7'7" - 11.6
    Yao Ming 7'6" - 11.1
    Mark Eaton 7'3" - 11.0
    Shawn Bradley 7'6" - 10.8
    Zydrunas Ilgauskas 7'3" - 10.6
    Rik Smits 7'4" - 9.1
    Manute Bol 7'7" - 9.1

In contrast, the best rebounders between 6'9" and 7'1" have Per 40 minute averages in the 13-15 range. Rodman averaged over 16 per 40 minutes.

dont take me too seriously... many things factor into rebounding, but what I think yao's main fault lies in his attidude/desire/determination.... he needs to think goddamnit im going to get that damn rebound and no ones gonna stop me attitude.... he's lacking it and the results are apparent
