For non-parents, how would you like your children to perceive you?

My kids love me. They lock themselves in their rooms and never bother me when I'm watching the games. My kids don't even talk to me. Its freaking great. I ask them for beer, and they bring it to me like fetching dogs. Man I love kids.

I would imagine they tell there friends how awesome I am and how I'm such an amazing father.

My dad asked me last night if I thought he and my mom were old. They are 51/53 and I'm 22. I asked him what his standard for being old was, and he couldn't really tell me. I refused to answer.

My kids love me when they get their way...when they don’t, I'm a strict father. Overall, if they want to eat they love me. Sometimes I flick the light switch while walking by and tell them...."You’re welcome." They just shake their heads. <<<<<<< True.

    I'm loved in my household.

If and when I have kids I'm not sure how I would want them to describe me. I suspect that if I did have kids I would probably be one of those parents who the kids are constantly embarrassed by, I mean what kid wants a dad who is a Chinese-Texan who plays rowdy Irish music, but whose friends think are cool.

My son would tell his friends I was super groovy and hep because that's what I always tell him I am. And then I would interrupt him in the middle of his praise and clean a smudge off his cheek with my thumb and some spit.

I'm sure there are times when they think I'm great and other times they think I suck. I'm sure there are times when they think I'm funny and other times when they think I'm embarrassing. There are times when I'm the cool dad and times when I'm not.

I hope they know that I always love them even when I suck. I hope they know that they can trust me but that I'm still human and I make mistakes. When they get older and look back I think they will know that I tried my best. I hope they will think that I am loyal, honest, hard working, and not a hypocrite.

There are many times where I don't feel I do enough but most of the time it isn't for lack of effort. Being a parent is the most difficult thing I have ever done.
