Looks like Rick McKay wants others to suffer as he once did.The Story He was on the air last night and suggested that he needs to hear from Dallas to work out compensation and hinted that he felt this may be tampering.
If the contract wasn't submitted for league approval, I don't know if it can be enforced for compensation as far as the league goes. Wouldn't it also seem then if he has a contract with the Bucs that requires compensation, that he also should be getting paid? Maybe a lawyer could shed some light on this since admittedly I wouldn't have a clue -- but I'd hate to see the Bucs get something out of this.
If the contract wasn't submitted for league approval, I don't know if it can be enforced for compensation as far as the league goes. Good question. I don't know how this would work. But if they had a legal contract, they might be able to get it enforced through the courts if not through the league? Wouldn't it also seem then if he has a contract with the Bucs that requires compensation, that he also should be getting paid? I think this is no different than a coach signing a contract and then resigning. The team still has "rights" to the coach, but the team doesn't pay the coach because he didn't do his job. It does seem to be an odd thing for Tampa Bay to push, but I wonder if they are just pissed off at Parcells. I guess they really have nothing to lose.
I don't think Tampa has a case. Basically a contract that hasn't been executed is tough to enforce. But if the Buscs want something how about: A) Quincy Carter B) Emmitt Smith (Emmitt I love you but you're too expensive) C) Bruce Coslet to run your O That seems fair
The Bucs have no case. Not sure if the contract was "executed," and if it were, where's the checks been going and wouldn't it void Gruden's contract?
Quincy can go but I hope we keep Emmitt. He said he would take a big pay cut. He isn't worth 7 million next year. Also, he is right when he says the problems are not with him. They are with the offensive line. As far as Bruce Coslet, you can get rid of him as long as we don't instill another whole new offense. It seems like every damn season they put in a new offense and that just sets the whole team back. You have to build the capability of the existing offense and that doesn't always mean tearing it down first. In all fairness to Bruce, when your offensive line suffers the amount of injuries that they did and the offensive players are moved between various positions to fill in the holes, then your offensive line is going to suck. That is exactly what happened. As a result, the qb, the running game, and Bruce's offense never had a chance. It is obvious we need to work on our offensive line, wide receiver group, fullback(get rid of that sorry ass who cannot block), and defensive secondary. The rest of the defense played pretty well. The wide receivers, barring some Galloway and Bryant play, were not very good. The offensive line is where we need the most help. If we have a crappy offensive line next season, then expect more of the same performance.
Not sure if the contract was "executed," and if it were, where's the checks been going and wouldn't it void Gruden's contract? How so? If: (a) Coach A signs contract (b) Coach A resigns (c) Coach B signs contract Coach B gets paid; A does not; Team holds rights to both A and B. Of course, normally Coach A works for a few years, but its no different if Coach A works for 2 years or 0 years. Coaches don't get paid if they resign, and it doesn't void the next coach's contract. The only question is whether the contract was ever executed, I think.
Right. But, my point was could Parcells say "hey, out of my chair Gruden, I'm the coach. I've got a contract before you did." Executed = compensation exchanged. Unless there's a special clause, I think Tampa has no shot.
Supposedly, the contract with Parcells was never submitted to the league...I dont know whether or not that would change things. Maybe if the league never approved the contract, Tampa wouldnt be entitled to anything...I hope not..I want to see the Tuna in Dallas
Right. But, my point was could Parcells say "hey, out of my chair Gruden, I'm the coach. I've got a contract before you did." Not really - if he then resigned after signing the contract, he's done. He didn't fulfill his end of the deal, but the team still would own his rights. Executed = compensation exchanged. Unless there's a special clause, I think Tampa has no shot. This is an interesting point. I'm not sure what "executed" is in terms of NFL rules. It may involve compensation, it may just involve submitting the contract to the NFL, or it may simply involve signing the agreement.
Not only must the contract be submitted to the league but it must also be approved by the league. It's starting to appear that neither was done so even if Parcells signed it, it's null and void. According to Jimmy Sexton (Parcells' agent) if the Bucs pursue this it will turn out to even more embarassing for the Bucs franchise than it will be for either the Cowboys or Parcells.
Parcells may be the coach of the Cowboys now, but the question lies in whether there will be compensation or not. I'd say "let's give him x player", but we don't have any over paid players right now. If it is any player, I'd think it is Joey Galloway, but I still doubt that. E Smith will likely take a pay cut so he is out of the compensation bracket. We won't give up Smith for a coach if Smith has renegotiated his contract. Major is saying the same thing that a lot of media personel are saying, "was this a contract?" To me, this is the only question.
I'm with you, Pimp. Parcells has been really flakey lately, but I've always liked him. I've always hated the cowgirls, but lately it's been difficult to hate them too much because......well......because they're so God-awful pathetic. At first it was pure joy to watch them fall apart, but now they've sucked so bad for so long that it's kind of losing it's edge. Now they're getting a coach I like.... ....maybe I'm losing my edge. Help me out here.
Just think back to all of the reasons you ever despised Jerry Jones, Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman and the Crackwagon as a whole and you'll quickly get your edge back and realize its not too difficult to hate them still. It's even easier when you are a lifelong Steelers fan like me!
If the contract is not on file with the NFL the Cowboys won't have to give any compensation to the Bucs. According to the NFL they do not have a contract on file from the Bucs in regards to Parcells. They are still going to have a hearing but everything is pointing to the Bucs getting nada except more embarassment.
