My wife is currently pondering a career in law, or, more specifically, that of a paralegal. So I was wondering, given the extensive variety of people on this BBS if there is anyone out there who can give us any information. Basically, we just kind of want to know about what steps we would need to take to further pursue this idea, and if there are any paralegals out there, tell us about your job. (i.e., problems, things to know, money, etc.) Many thanks in advance.
i was a paralegal and have a lot of respect for them, but now im in law school. To keep it short, paralegal's understand what needs to be done for a deal to get through, they are the muscle to the lawyer's brain. A lot of lawyer's that i worked with didn't know have any idea how to do due diligence or file information, which a para could do in their sleep. However, unless you get good at it, it is job with limits, and you will get little respect from lawyers, despite the fact that a deal could not go through without paras. In time, you will learn how to do the work for certain deals, but you will often not learn the "lawyer-stuff" and thinking that goes into it. There's always a need for paras out there, but the path of the lawyer will always be more fruitful, mentally and financially. Not that many paralegals can remain so for that long, I wasn't a para long enough to know why
