I recently switched to Papa Johns. But they charge a delivery fee, which kinda makes me uncomfortable tipping. Especially when my pizza box came with a flyer for 'Drivers Wanted! Gas Reimbursement per delivery! I guess my question is, is the delivery fee the same as a restaurant adding gratuity to your bill (imo meaning (extra) tipping not necessary unless service extraordinary!)
The problem with not tipping is if you want to order from them again, they may remember that you did not tip and you'll have some secret sauce added to your pie.
I've wondered this myself. I have ordered Papa John's online for several years now and it has had a few for at least 3-4 years now and it recently increased to $2.00. I still tipped even though they had the delivery fee. I now just go pick my pizza up and save the extra $5-6.
my roommates and i used to order from papa john online all the time. i believe the delivery fee was $1 at the time. just tip like you do with others. it's not a big deal. if the are adding 15%, 20% on top of the pizza, then you may want to call in and see what's the deal.
That's what I do too. I lived off the 1 Large Pepperoni Pizza for $5 in CS. Loved it. (carry out only) Haven't had anything other than Digorno (sp?) frozen pizza lately.
Don't all major pizza chains have a delivery fee? I know my local Dominos, Papa Johns, and PizzaHut all do.
http://www.amazon.com/Presto-03430-...1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1220315262&sr=8-1 I think more people who love pizza should buy this I usually get any pizza that is on sale from the grocery store (usually freschetta and Digirono) and taste like its not frozen food but just little less than delivery. I usually like the bottom to be a bit more crispy so on the machines i usually cook an extra few mins on the bottom heat.
Oh yeah, don't order those pieces of crap. I dunno, I think tipping should be an earned thing, if it's forced, I kinda stop going. If they charge a delivery fee, I stop tipping.
Actually the best pizza is the one you make on your own. You can buy ready made pizza dough, and then add whatever cheese and toppings you want. I make fat free cheese pizza all the time. Its 10x better than using Boboli or other pre-made crusts.
Lately I've started picking up my own pizza because of all of the extra fees. Order it online at work, then stop on the way home and it's ready. Here is how I do it: Monday - Papa Johns - large 1 topping for $5.99 Tuesday - Domino's - buy a large, get a large free, usually about $12-$13 Any other day (unless I have a coupon) - Little Caesars I just can't stand paying the delivery fees and then tipping on top of that.... Pugs
I delivered Pizzas for 4yrs in college (Mr. Gatti's) and I remember when they started charging for delivery, my income went down dramatically because people assumed that money went to me. It didn't, and I was living off that money because I had not financial support from my parents..I was ticked off. Yes, I got $1 per delivery from Mr. Gatti's, but that was for Gas & wear and tear on the car, not really for me. To this day, I still tip the delivery guy well. If they didn't pay that 1$ for gas, I would not have made enough in tips the cover the gas myself, and would've had to find a different job.
One time I had a horrible experience with Papa Johns which resulting in me getting a "funny" looking pizza, I didn't eat it of course. Since then I go pick up the pizza.
I gave up on delivery pizza. Anybody been to Antonio's on richmond and hillcroft?? I live for those pizzas, i can't eat any other pizza.
I used to work for a chain called Mazio's Pizza. We charged a $1 delivery charge that I got..along with my tips. So I would get $1 per delivery..even if I went to 3 houses on the same block, I would get $3. I used to come home with $60 on a Saturday...not to included in my min wage. Now Pizza Hut gave their drivers something like $.15 a mile...which sucked because the town I worked in was not that big. Pappa John's (I think) was the same as my place, $1 charge that went to the driver. I do tip today because I know how it is to deliver pizza, but the driver is getting some type of commission.
