Homer: So, what do you have? Vendor: Well, lets have a look. I've got Crab Juice and Mountain Dew. Homer: Eeew, I'll take the Crab Juice.
man, you just pulled that out of your butt!!! people hold it dear to them. if you're affected by it, i totally understand. otherwise, you're just crapping on people for no reason. people are going to think differently than you do. that's ok.
man come on guys..(dak and tinny) They arent forcing you to eat it their way. They arent affecting your dietary habits whatsoever Why in hell does it matter to you if folks are picky about what they want to eat as long as they arent forcing it on you? I realize yall think religious edicts are stupid...I also think some of them are dumb...but it isnt mine or your places to be telling others what rules they need to follow....if you did, wouldnt that make you just as bad as the folks you are complaingin about?
I came home yesterday afternoon & my neighbor had a package sitting by their door. I glanced at it, took a step, thought "Nah, I didn't just see that, did I?", turned and took a good look. The package was wrapped in logo tape that read "Bacon of the Month". This is simply too awesome for words. I will befriend this neighbor as soon as possible. http://mgrsti5395q.seamlesstech.biz/Merchant/2005TGP/BOM pages/bom.html
Exactly my point. Maybe I should be like L. Ron Hubbard and start my own religion. And, why can't we voice our opinions about religous edicts? Certainly the religious people are voicing their opinions. If they can say why they follow certain rules etc, then I can certainly say that I choose not to follow, and we can have a friendly debate about it. Right? DD
what friendly debate? calling their beliefs stupid?? how is that friendly debate? and what debate, period? they believe...you don't. i don't follow dietary laws, either. i'm not a vegetarian, either, though i have more than a few friends who are. i could tell them they're stupid...but why?
look i wont tell people that certain things are stupid, i want to push them into the direction in seeing that it is stupid. these religious edicts are made by humans. all these stupid things are made by humans. its my place as a superior human to tell those people who thought jesus was on a spaceship not to kill themselves to hitch a ride. we as the elite minds of the world need to show people the way to advance as a human race and avoid stupidity. it is so obvious, that ALL OF THESE DUMB RELIGIOUS FOOD TRADITIONS were made in a period of LOW TECHNOLOGY. I wouldn't eat pork in the day because it was 'filthy'. yeah it was filthy cause its been rotting or not properly cooked. The lamb is slaughtered and taste the same regardless of what religion the dude is who hacks him. TECHNOLOGY. back in the certain people were better skilled at butchering than others. but now, in the advanced world, all CIVILIZATIONS have good butchers. if people were more open minded about food, then they would be more open minded PERIOD. think about it. deals, stories, treaties are made at the dinner table. the tradition of society started because of food. people got together to hunt, cook, and eat and share.
if a religion had a tradition of swimming to reach the other side of river, would it be UNFRIENDLY or POLITICALLY INCORRECT to tell them that TECHNOLOGY has invented Bridges?? What if lots of people drown while trying to reach the other side and they claim its 'gods will' if they make it? in the world today, people told these people about the bridges, they'd BURN their bridges and claim it to be insulting to their religion.
Theoretically...yes...right. BUT Like Max points out...it isnt a matter of one side saying "I believe this" and the other side saying "I believe that" and discussing it. We have you with your well established disdain of religion and associated practices...and tinman goin on and on and on about how these people need to drop these ancient beliefs and get with the program as seen by tinman or they are stupid for not doing it. these are not methods civilzed humans (should) use to discuss their differences. It automatically puts the ppl in question on the defensive, which isnt the best state of mind for fair and open debate/discussion.
huh?? that's not even metaphor that's remotely close to the situation, tinman. they know they can safely eat pork. they believe its off-limits by command from God. you're not helping anyone out here. and when you start with the notion that they're backwards and have stupid beliefs, you're not going to get anywhere in that regarding, anyway.
oh, you won't? this is from you second post in this very thread: "this is another example of what i say is stupid religious traditions"
Ok, Maybe I missed the post where I called it stupid, I called it controlling, that is a FAR cry from stupid. I am trying very hard to not go over the top with my beliefs, but you seem to be reading far more into my posts than I intend. Also, for the record, I believe in God, strongly believe in God, but I have serious issues with most religions and their validity. However, I was saved as a Baptist, and joined the Methodist church and have been a member for the last 20 years, I just find a lot of it hypocritical. DD
Pam Anderson's against KFC too. And they serve KFC at lots of church picnics. This thread morphed pretty quick from 'this-is-an-inhumane-way-to-kill-animals' to 'other-people's-religions-are-dumb.' I'm don't know whether this process is any worse than the meat factories here in North America. But talking about how we process our food is probably not a bad thing.
Pam Anderson's early pictures are FAR more attractive than the plastic surgery looking babe she is today, she was an amazingly beautiful girl. Simply stunning, now she looks like a Friday night hooker at Sugars. DD
that was perfect analogy. people dont question their beliefs. people should question some parts of them because of they are outdated. its no coincidence that we are buying cars and playstations from countries that dont have religious restrictions on food. technology friendly societies that recognize certain traditions and beliefs, if forced upon the society will hinder economical, social, and edible progress.
