link Anderson Seeks End to Sheep Farming Process Thu Feb 16, 10:35 AM ET Pamela Anderson is urging Australia's prime minister to ban a sheep farming practice at the center of a global campaign to boycott Australian wool. The 38-year-old actress, who is an animal rights activist, has written to Prime Minister John Howard, asking him to end the "sad practices" of live sheep exports and a process known as mulesing, which involves slicing flesh and wool away from the sheep's rump to prevent blowflies from laying their eggs in the warm, damp skin. Farmers say the procedure is an essential part of caring for the animals in Australia's hot climate. But the U.S.-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals calls the practice an unnecessary mutilation and wants it stopped. Anderson, who has been involved in anti-fur ads and a campaign to raise awareness of what she calls abuse of chickens in processing plants, said in the letter Wednesday to Howard that consumers were horrified by the procedure. She also condemned the export of live sheep on "death ships" to the Middle East. Australia ships live animals to Islamic countries that require halal meat products — meat from an animal that has been killed by a Muslim who slits its jugular vein and drains all the blood from the carcass. Several years ago, Australian exporters were accused of cruelty when a ship carrying sheep became stranded at sea for weeks and thousands of animals died.
I enjoyed this because Pam Anderson hates KFC and Pizza Hutt like the cartoon haters do. The sheep thing makes no sense. How do they tell if the sheep was killed by a NON BELIEVER? this is another example of what i say is stupid religious traditions that are not based on logic of the 20th century. like Pork. maybe the non believers were bad butchers in the day so they didnt want them chopping up their lamb. Now 5000 years later people still descriminate on their butchers.
why does it matter to you, personally? is that reason worth calling something that someone holds dear...something that someone genuinely believe is from their Creator, stupid?
people use to sacrifice humans for their creator too. people kill other people because their creator.
Umm....Muslims are allowed to consumer the same food Christians and Jews eat in a non-Muslim society. However, nowadays, there are speciality shops that offer Halal/Kosher meals in the West and elsewhere. Mainly, there is a different procedure in how animals are slaughtered. But really, for the most part, it's no big deal, Muslims can and are allowed to eat non-Halal food, a luxury -- if I am not mistaken -- that my Jewish friends don't have (correct me if I am wrong here). And yes, tinman, even if it's slaughtered "halal", pork is still not an option.
its not even about that. the mayans and the incas use to sacrifice people. people not having milk and dairy products together is stupid. people not eating pork is stupid. its not the creator, its the humans silly. humans made up these stupid traditions. i hope in the year 10,000 when we mine Arakis for the spice, that humans would learn to rid themselves of the stupid food traditions. think about it, what if we found another planet with a bunch of different animals that are delicious? what would the prophet or jehovah or pat robertson say about it? its not in the book.
By "jihadists" you mean what? You mean the terrorists like Bin Laden that target civilians, or 'mujahideen' who are legitimate resistance fighters defending their lands/people from occupiers and tyrants? Just wondering, although I am not sure if you recognize the difference...
im on a mission to save the world by showing them that liberating the way they eat will set them free and live happy lives with other humans. if you starve the entire world, no one cares about what religion you came from, they will eat burgers and pork chops and lobster. they will learn we are on this planet to eat and populate, not make religious differences, war, or worship kobe bryant. i pray for the alien invasion.
i can see why someone sacrificing other people would be of concern to you. why does this bother you, though?
im a jihad for people not trying new foods because of dumb religious reasons! you give the middle east a taste of sweet and sour pork, there will be peace.
LOL! OK, the problem is I can't tell when you're serious or when you're playing. So really, it's the food that's causing all these wars and conflicts? It might make an interesting research topic for my dissertation.
actually, i'm not bothered by the article, i like the fact its pam anderson, a kfc hater, trying to change this tradition of the australians sending sheep to the middle east. i thought it would be a good topic cause its hard to take sides with either subjects. it makes you think about food though.
they need to do some blind taste test of the sheep that was slaughtered religiously or one that was just hacked by a non believer. that would prove my case about this nonsense! also they need to season the lamb with some herbs and spices and cook it on medium.
That's the way pigs, lambs & goat kids have been butchered in the Hill Country (and elsewhere) for a long time. It's not strictly a religious thing. Mmmmmmm...cabrito.
if they descriminate against the butcher it does! i believe in world peace. why do u think there are so many mcdonalds around the world? because they dont care who the butcher is!
Kosher = Halal Halal != Kosher Anyways, this article isn't about how the animal is butchered, it is about the cruelty the Aussies are inflicting on the animals thru transportation. IE. the slicing of their flesh and wool to get rid of blow flies. If anything Pam should be happy that these animals are being slaughtered the Kosher way, which includes an incredibly sharp knife, without a single knick in it, slicing thru the animals neck in one swift motion. I'm pretty sure that this death beats getting brained by a hammer. Yea... I'm taking a world religions course this semester.
What's that supposed to mean? Is it Kosher food is also considered Halal, but not the other way around?
