I'll have to agree with you on that.I've only seen it called once,in one other non-Rocket game this year.It seem's like Steve gets it at least twice a game.

It also doesn't help when the Rocks get terrible officials.

It's Red Mckormickl- he's the worst ref in the NBA- he's a communist at heart and he hates Francis.

I'm going to have to disagree.

Houston (as many people on this BBS LOVE to point out) uses their guards to dribble the ball all game long, and I have seen in other games palming the ball being called on other teams. The league is starting to crack down on it.

Whether you think the Rocks are being targeted or not, it's hard to argue it when they call it--it IS pretty obvious.

Now, whether the referees stick with it or not, that is another story...

We do palm the ball, I think the refs were told to call palming if you take 2 steps while cupping the ball.

Guess, what? They are calling it.

I don't mind though, as long as we win.

If we win fine but when it has the possibility of loosing the game for us due to a turnover then there is a problem with it.

I saw Kobe called for it twice in a row in their game against Vancouver last Saturday, so that should stop all conspiracy talks.

I always thought Steve Javy was the worst ref in the NBA. Maybe that is just because he IS biased against the Rockets. It goes back to the Drexler days.

Anyway, there is no conspiracy to call palming against the Rockets. If you watch other NBA games, you'll see the officials are cracking down on palming and offensive fouls. Most of the calls are gonig against the younger teams or more specifically guys in their first 1-3 years in the league.

The palming call on Mo when he was working the ISO last night was terrible. He was schooling that schmuck.

It does seem a bit ridiculous that we are getting a large amount of palming violations. The NBA suposedly was going to crack down on this beginning this year....but I have not seen Kobe (a huge violator) nor guys like Iverson, Kidd or Stoudamire get called for it. These are guys I see palming the ball frequently. Vince Carter does as well.

I do think across the board, the refs are calling it more, but I have seen a lot of it in our games.

Curly, Mo was definately palming the ball when he was called. It is definately being called a lot more in all the games. It's the NBA's fault. They let Jordan get away with it his whole career. These young guys grew up watching Jordan and expect to get away with it also. The League's position has so much to do with marketing. Now that Jordan's retired, they can't let everyone do it, so now they are cracking down. I wonder if Chicago would have won so many championships if Jordan hadn't had the advantage of carrying the ball every time he made a move.

Palming is like Bill Worrell said
Offensive Holding in football. . .
It happens d*mn near every play . .
you just have to decide when to call it

I watch as Kobe had his hand UNDER the damn
    ball between dribbles

I did notice one point in the game, Cuttino was upset at a non-call after a made basketball and placed the ball on the ground, forcing the ref the come over and pick it up to give to Vancouver inbounding the ball.

On the very next possession, Cuttino was called for palming, which he did.

I think if the Rockets start getting on to the refs, the refs, sometimes, can use palming as a way of getting the players off their case. As Bill and Calvin pointed out, it COULD be called on every possession.

That's my 2 cents. I'll put it on your tab.

Larry HUghes gets called for palming 2-3 times a game. Thats what happens when you bring the ball down the court with 3 dribbles.
