If the trade between Toronto and New Jersey (Vince Carter for Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams and Eric Williams) goes through, the Raptors will have 16 players under contract. I am wondering whether the Rockets can acquire Pape Sow, 250-lb. rookie PF, for a future second-rounder or some minor player like Lue or Gaines. This would give us a cheap, young PF with promise. Birthdate: 11/22/81 NBA Position: Power Forward College: Cal State Fullerton Class: Senior Ht: 6-10 Wt: 250 Hometown: Dakar, Senegal High School: Jean Di La Fontaine Team Site Profile 2003 Stats Strengths: A physical specimen. Very strong athlete with a good feel for the game for an African player ... Loves to dunk the ball, and can really get off the floor for a variety of finishes ... Has nice form on his shot ... Plays with intensity and aggresiveness ... Runs the floor very well for a big man ... Very good frame, extremely strong upperbody and legs... Seals off his man well ... Finishes well after contact. Has improved his free throw shooting ... A fighter. Battles extremely hard for rebounds ... Very good hands. Weaknesses: Still learning the game. High School in Senegal did not have a team ... Fundamentals are raw, passing and ballhandling are decent for a PF, but can stand to improve ... Needs to work on a go-to move ... Basketball understanding is a work in progress ... The shoplifting offense (school hat) cost him nearly half a season of games which stopped him from having a breakout junior season, but he'll likely bounce back as a senior ... Level of competition isn't the best, but he is to the point where he dominates every one he plays ... For now he's limited to 10 feet from the basket. He'll need to develop some range
Forget Sow. Lets try to trade for Zo. He is the banger of our dreams. Isn't he making only 5 million a season? I bet Zo is really excited about going to...gulp...Toronto. But Sow would be better than what we have. It can't get any worse.
We have a guy that is playing in Germany. Why do we need to trade for a simliar one. Carter for those three? No way!
Just trying to be realistic here. Zo may not want Toronto, but Toronto wants him so that Chris Bosh can play PF full time. There is no way Toronto would trade Zo for Taylor or Howard. However, Sow seems to be the odd man out with Aaron Williams coming aboard -- and with Erick Williams giving them a quality backup SF.
Why do people think that mid 2nd round project picks barely logging minutes on marginal teams: a.) improve the team b.) play any minutes Seriously...Spoon has averaged 18-10 before, and he can't get minutes. Toronto is about to waive him in all likelihood. No trade necessary. And if I hear that a 30 year old, never played in the NBA, ex-con, Lee Benson is the answer once more, I may....I don't know what I'll do.
It's called: Desperate for a Rebound! Also, trading for him gets rid of a longer term contract (except Lue but that's still temporary relief).
Look, we all know that the 'expendable' players on the Rockets aren't going to net us much in a trade. We also know that we desperately need some rebounding on this team. Because of these factors, people are going out and looking for under-the-radar talent. That's why people are talking about players like Lee Benson and now Papa Sow. Maybe some overly exuberant or frustrated posters are overhyping these guys, but I don't think they actually think these guys will be 'saviors.' However, they just might prove to be a good fit with our team and thus fill in some of the skills gaps that are painfully obvious. And I'm glad someone is checking out less than obvious candidates to solve our PF problem - 5 years ago, a few Rocket fans (myself included) suggested we take a look at signing this PF/C named Ben Wallace from Orlando who was a good rebounder (8.2 per game in 24.2 minutes) but not much offensively. But most people dismissed this guy as one dimensional and instead suggested waiting for Chris Webber next season. We didn't get Webber (no real surprise there), we signed a guy who was better known (Taylor) and we missed out on one of the best defensive players in the league. However, I would be curious to get some opinions from people who have seen this guy play. He hasn't gotten enough minutes for his stats to indicate anything. That alone may be telling, but then again, Ben Wallace only played 5 minutes a game his first season.
Zo would be so tight. He'll bring toughness..him and Sura..and ewing lol and JVG I still think we need to bring in a better small forward..and yeah all the small forwards we have are decent backups..good role players but should be off the bench. Zo would be nice. Marshall would be nice. Nene..Chandler..Swift..
forget Zo, Aaron Williams is the guy we should really be wondering about. This guy is dirt cheap, and he is a banger in the low post
if we could get either bonzi or posey we would be solid at the 3 for years. chandler would be my dream at 4 but i dont think chicago would give him up for a 1st or anything else we have. give up: jj/juwon/lue/TE/1st getosey or bonzi/chandler/change it would probably involve four teams for this to work. just dreaming... sura/barrett tmac/gaines posey/nachbar chandler/mo yao/deke
