until thanksgiving, i'd never even see that game in person and i think i may have been the last to actually play it. I gave it a good 5 minutes worth of jamming.
I've always assumed that because musical instrument arcade games have been big in japan for a long time.
lol, ok i'll post it and there is a 3 page book excerpt here, but it's too long to copy/paste. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/2801/book_excerpt_inside_game_design_.php?page=1
BS - MTV took our demo to Harmonix and showed the game to them. They can spin it however they like, but I have the signed NDA's the actual concept documents and the demo itself, which was made 6 months prior to them even starting Guitar hero. Of course they are going to spin it however they like. It bothers me to this day, and I am seriously considering a law suit, I just have to get the other owners of the IP on board. Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc.....we were doing that all in 2004, and plenty of people in the industry saw our demo..... I am not surprised that it got stolen.....just mad. DD
How many years has it been? The statute of limitations on IP cases generally last anywhere between 2-5 years depending on your jurisdiction. If you want to file the lawsuit, you may have to do it soon.
I don't think I am going to be able to file anything, there are 2 other parties involved that lay claim to it. We even trademarked using the controller as a guitar, and we had our own mocked up Guitar that we were pitching to MTV, hell, I still have all of the pitch stuff in my storage facility. The funny thing is that Guitar hero is still only about 30% of what we were doing, we had more instruments, a studio portion for people to create their own music, and a walk around and save the world in 3d (ala Zelda) where the Guitar was a weapon, shooting out ghostbuster style of beams as you go. Each "riff" was a special bit of magic...ie speed up, freeze, slow down, etc..etc..etc... Oh well, I am on to my WW2 combat type of MMO game now. DD
When I can, you guys will know, we are about to do some VERY public development. And the only reason to file suit would have been to get MTV/Activision to settle..... DD
doesnt sound like the current guitar hero or rock band to me. sounds like you wanted to create some kind of action game using musical instruments.
There you have it. A simple solution to appease all the skeptics on this board. Pictures. But I'm sure you have some reason/excuse/story as to why you can't go get a picture of the stuff and post it for us. The storage facility is in Alaska or something, I don't know.
Chilly, Not the same thing, we are much different, not WW2 per se, but more like combat from the 1920s - 1960s, lots of vehicles upgrades etc..etc...etc... I guess you are a doubter......ok.....try this on for size. The website was up until just recently, I took it down because we are launching our new venture. What would you suggest I show them? You can google Johnny Whatever there were lots of articles on it. Here is an IGN blurb Hands on at GameSpot Get the trailer here Is that enough for the doubters? Even a comment on the YouTube thing about Harmonix ripping us off.... I believe that Clutch has a copy of the demo, but I don't think I ever sent him the cord that lets you turn your X-box controller into a PC USB connection. Enough CCR, or do you need the demo too? DD
And as I've linked before, your guitar shaped controller was not new. In 1998 Guitar Freaks was released in Japan. Guitar Hero was released in the US in 2005. I don't doubt for a second that your idea was new to you and that you put a lot of work and effort into the game. But to suggest that the only way for Harmonix to come up with Guitar Hero is by ripping off your work is simply not true.
DD I don't understand how you can say that Harmonix stole your idea. ____ GuitarFreaks (also GUITARFREAKS, abbreviated GF) is a 1998 arcade game created by Konami, part of the Bemani series. The player uses a controller to simulate the playing of an electric guitar. The game consists of music predominantly from rock and roll and J-Pop genres, and is now in its 15th version, GuitarFreaks V4. The interface is similar to other games in the Bemani series. Two note scrolls—one for each player—are displayed at the left and right sides of the screen. Colorful animations for each song are displayed in the center of the screen. Each note scroll consists of four columns: one each for the red, green, and blue buttons, and a final another Wailing Bonus column. Individual notes and chords are represented by small colored bars that scroll upward in the columns. To play the correct note, the player must hold down the buttons corresponding to the colored bars, and move the pick lever when the bars reach the yellow picking line. When a guitar icon is displayed in the Wailing Bonus column along with an associated note, the player can tilt the guitar upright while playing the note to receive bonus points. link
