It seems the Rockets have fallen from their perch at the bottom of page one of the Chronicle. I woke up this morning to read about last night's game, only to find the story buried on page seven. Next thing you know, the Rockets' write-up will follow the rugby news and another story about Kournikova losing. I never thought I'd say this, but I almost miss the days when the Rockets merited a Blineberry lynching on page one.
The Chronicle always buries the Rockets deep in the sports pages. I mean... wouldn't you think local pro teams would take precedence over hunting or fishing even if your local pro team was in a 'rebuilding' mode? Lack of respect from the NBA and your own local paper sucks. rH
That's a little unfair. Normally the Rockets rate a couple of columns under the fold, with the majority of the story (often along with a supplemental story) inside. Yesterday was national signing day, and the collective are more interested in that than the Rox. However, hat doesn't mean I can't wait for the days when we are back on top, and even a mid-season game against the Cavaliers rates a headline in the sports page the day after the Superbowl, but until then...
I guess when the Rockets quit losing to SORRY A$$ teams like the Cavaliers then the people of Houston will notice. Maybe, just maybe, fans are sick of the ME FIRST attitude that this team displays. Maybe, just maybe, fans are sick of the TALK of defense and then watching the Rockets players sleepwalk on the defensive end. Face it, the Rockets are just not very good right now, be it a confidence problem, injuries, chemistry, or a combination of all of the above, they are just plain bad. There, I feel better...rant over. DaDakota
The chronicle is pathetic. Sometimes I think their to blame for some of the fair weathered fans. They just don't critique right. They either make a loss worse than it is or a win bigger than it was. They bandwagon so bad. I swear if I had millions of dollars, I would start another newspaper in H-Town. I can't believe there is only one paper in the 4th largest city in America.LETS BUY THE COMPETITION! AND DOWNSIZING ARE KILLING THE AMERICAN DREAM. CAN"T WE BELIEVE IN OUR COMMUNITY ANY MORE?
I'd have to see newspaper sales figures for the Chronicle for the last few years to confirm it, but my gut tells me that sales are trending down - even though the population of Houston is rising. With the rise of the web, why choose reading the newspaper over browsing the internet? So I wouldn't really want to get into the newspaper market right now - but what you do with your fictional millions is none of my business
The Rockets are almost always on the first page. I think the game wound up on page 7 because of the baseball tournament which, given the quality of teams, is in fact big news. Also, I think some people are being very harsh on the quality of the Chronicle. Its easily the best paper in Texas. If all you read are sports writers (Feigen excepted) then you have a point. The way they skewered the Astros was nauseating.
I can't believe I'm typing this but... I agree with DaDakota. The Rocket's "me-first" attitude is ruining the team. The only - yes, the only player on this team who I really look up to in terms of demeanor is Eddie Griffin. And he's a 19 year-old kid. Assists need to improve, and turnovers need to go down. That adjustment + hustle and team defense will make Houston the team we've always wanted them to be...exciting, winning, and elite.
Finalsbound, It is ok man, everyone comes around sooner or later......well not everyone.....LOL Oh, and before you respond....you are sitting on 999 posts, perhaps it is time for a GRAND 1000 post thread for you...congrats. DaDakota
