isn't Padgett everything we asked for our starting PF?

a good reounder (2.3/6min.); solid defender; gives you 110% from the 1st minute he steps out on the court; probably the best 3pt shooter we've got (.431 last season, 1/2 so far); best +/- per 48/min. according to JVG.

i meant, we keep talking about Mo's rebounding, JVG wants Mo extends his range behind the arc, questioning starters' effore in the 1st twelve minutes, how bad we need a shooter who can knock down the open 3s Yao created, ..... while we have a guy who already gives you all of above... Scott Padgett.
I know we got the big name in Howard and we're paying Mo $9M to play and it's weired to bench those two behind Padgett. but it's more stupid if we pay big $ and lose games itn't it?

    1. T-Mac gets healthy
    2. Replace Mo with Padgett in the starting line-up
    3. Package one of the PFs with Lue for a better PG
(or combined 2&3 if we trade for Donyell Marshall who imo. a rich man of Padgett.)

It was only one game BUT even than its all about match ups... Do you really think Padgett can cover Duncan, Brand, Webber, ect.??? I dont think so. You can say give him more playing time but saying he should start is just a little over the top

not just based on last game. Padgett actually had the better effect on the team than any other PF we got last season (according to our coach). match ups I agree, Padgett guards Odom better than Mo and Spoon. so you think Taylor can cover Duncan, Brand, Webber, ect.? Padgett at least will try his best and hassal on every lose ball, every possesion, from the very begining. I meant, I wish we have the Wallaces of the Pistons, but choosing from the 4s on our roster we should have Padgett starts the game for us with Mo or Howard come off the bench and the other one traded for a PG.

Mo, Howard and Weatherspoon can't cover Duncan, Brand and Webber. Padgett is much more athletic than our current power forwards and he has deep 3pt. range. Mo and Howard post up much better and have bigger bodies to bang with. All in all I think Mo has played very well so far this season and I would not change anything just yet. Eventually the rockets are going to have to trade one of their current power forward duo. Would not surprise me to see Kurt Thomas as a rocket down the road.

Can Padgett play in place of Nachbar?
They are both the same height and nearly the same weight and Padgett seems to play better and actually score some points.

I dont see why Padgett cant cover them guys just as well as Mo and Juwon. Those guys torch our current big 2. Padgett has better foot movement defensively than either Mo or Juwon by far. Give him a shot. Couldnt be worse than what we are doing now.

And start Boki at the 3. He is shooting lights out from 3 land. With McGrady doing the pick and roll drive and those guys spotting up with Ward, we have a lot better chance of making hay on the offensive end. Let Padgett run the pick and fade with McGrady, spot up Ward and Boki, and let Big Boy loose down low. Bring Howard and Mo off the bench with JJ to play the 2nd team. Offensively our 2nd team should keep us in the game against other 2nd units.

Nobody can cover them in the post. That is not the point. When they get in the post, we send Ming Bling over for the double and force the ball out of their hands if he gets there in time. Mo and Juwan cannot contain those players in the post. Padgett couldnt be any worse because they are already the worst. Padgett would simply join them in post defense play. But out on the floor, Padgett would be more to deal with than MoT or Juwon who have their feet stuck in concrete out there. Look at the rebounding stats man. Who boards better? Is there a significant difference between Padgett and the other 2? Who does it favor? The only think those 2 have on Padgett on the defensive end is pounds.

Im sorry im not buying your argument.. I just dont see any team starting Padgett over MoT and Juwan on a daily basis. Its just not gona happien. Once again like i said in my first post, its all about match ups... For example, against the lakers or the grizz playing Padgett would be a + becuase they have PFs who can run and handle the ball BUT w/ players like Brand Duncan ect. its better playing "pound" for "pound" Padgett dosnt have the upper body strenth to cover these guys consistantly.

And I think that other fours would really wear down chasing Padgett around the key instead of getting to rest while Mo and Juwan are standing still trying to post up.

I don't think any one person can cover Duncan. As for Webber, you don't have to worry about him. He'll injure himself.

I don't think Padgett is suited for a starting role. He's the kind of player that I believe will only excel in the NBA by coming off the bench, providing an intensity-boost, play some defense, and hit some shots when need be. That's his strength and it fits the role player position perfectly. If you put him in the starting lineup, it takes away the effect.

You had a Hakeem that is just a menace on weak side and don' t have to worry about Ostertag. Yao's a intimidater, but he isn't quick enough for help defense in those cases.

well soon enough he might be playing...with Boki being benched today for Ryan bowen it's only a matter of time before padgett moves up in the depth charts.
