Pacers Could Extend Offer To Landry

    Jul 01, 2008 9:49 AM EST
The Pacers aren't likely to sign any big-name free agents, but they could extend an offer to Carl Landry, according to The Indianapolis Star.

Landry, a restricted free agent with the Rockets, played at Purdue.

Houston extended a qualifying offer to Landry, worth $711,517. They have the right to match any offer made to the forward.

"We believe a number of teams have interest," Landry's agent Buddy Baker said Monday.

So Landry's agent thinks that the Pacers might sign him?

In Indiana he basically gets to go home. He already has a huge fan base there from playing for Purdue. He's a household name in Indianapolis already.

Landry's agent made himself availabe Monday to put his client's name in this piece. But he wouldn't make himself availabe the same day to comment on the Feigen article. I wouldn't be too worried ... if Indiana really has interest, let them make an offer. The earlier in the summer Landry's contract situation gets taken care of the better for the Rockets.

This is like an ebay auction. Best thing the Rockets can do is hold off till the last minute to see what the bids look like and not help drive the price up.

Once another team signs him to an offer sheet, the Rockets only have 15 days to match (I believe).

Guess Rockets wait the 15 days to match then.

In fact, it is the rockets make Landry who he is. He cannot create his own shots. If he didn't play with unselfish rockets players, I highly doubt his performence.

They do help him a lot but it goes both ways. Landry is smart, athletic,a hard worker and plays tough. He also has some upside. Losing him will hurt us,but the Rockets shouldn't over pay him.

Morey is making Brent Barry sound more important then Landry.

    Landry > Barry

Yeah. Landry is a good finisher. But, I do think he should stay with the rockets.

The pacers are a young, rebuilding team. For those young players, most important thing is their stats. Landry cannot create his own shots, and nobody would help him in that situation. In fact, he was not very good in last summer league, and even got outplayed by Harris.

I can see including Landry in a trade to some other team; whatever it takes to improve the Rockets. But just letting him go? Only if said other team overpays. In that case, Dorsey gets more PT and bye-bye Scolandry and hello, uh, Scorsey?

I want him to stay in Houston, which is a great fit for him as you have pointed out,but not for the entire MLE.

Damnit wasn't it the pacers that he hurt his knee against in the first place? Damn Larry Bird. Damn Tinsley. I hope we can at least sign and trade Dunleavy.
