Dawson said on Fox that it would have to be a sign and trade but he doesn't know details. Thomas and Walsh are in town tonight talking to Dream and his agent. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Dream offered $9.1 million by Toronto for 2 years. Rocks offered just over $8 million for 2 years. Toronto told the Rockets that they want to sign him outright but would do a sign and trade possibly involving their trade exception meaning they could send a much smaller contract to the Rockets for a bigger Olajuwon deal and the Rockets would get cap space. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Jeff, do you have the same sick feeling I do? ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
Sorry for the stuttery talk. I was typing while watching Berman on KRIV. Basically, stuff we've heard. IMO, it sounds more and more like a sign and trade could happen. That exception could mean bringing in a $4 or $5 million contract even if the Raptors gave Dream $8 or $9 million for ONE SEASON. That would give the Rockets options like getting a Keon Clark (for example) and still being able to bring back Taylor, Anderson and Norris. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd call it sick. I do think that it is looking more and more like the handwriting is on the wall with Dream. Dawson went on to say that Olajuwon should look at all his options. Doesn't sound like they are going to budge on their offer. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. sounds to me like the rockets are ready to call hakeem's bluff, at least in the media. of course, it may not be a bluff. . . either way, it seems like it's moving forward and not just stagnating. ------------------ houston rockets = 2 utah jazz = 0
Any clue about who the Raptors would want to send to the Rockets in a sign and trade? Keon Clark maybe? ------------------
I was hoping that this would move along faster. I think Toronto offered Dream 2 years $9.5 million. Where did the Toronto 4 years $20 plus million offer come from? If it didn't come from Fegan then Dream would be dumb not to take it. It's down to three teams. Looks like this thing isn't going to be resolved anytime soon. ------------------ 13-0 [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited July 20, 2001).]
DON'T MORTGAGE OUR FUTURE TO SIGN DREAM. As much as he embodies Rocket basketball, we may forced to choose between the two. Gotta do what's best for the franchise in the long run. Even with Dream playing all 82 games (which will NEVER happen!), we would not contend for an NBA title, altho I would expect us to get a round or two into the playoffs.
The $20 million was a rumor reported in the Chronicle. It would take a 4-year deal to accomplish that and that won't happen. That sounds like a Fegan floated rumor to see what would happen. Toronto supposedly told KRIV and others that it was 2 years, $9.1 million. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Take an example. Toronto agrees to give Hakeem $9 million next season. They could then send us a player whose contract is worth $3.4 million and the trade exception. The Rockets would get one signed player worth $3.4 million and $5.5 million in cap space. It would be like signing Hakeem to a deal worth $3.4 million or whatever the player's contract is worth. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Vecsey stated this morning that the Pacers were visting with Hakeem today... http://www.clutchcity.net/news.cfm?NewsID=741 I don't think this is shocking or spur of the minute news... meaning I wouldn't say a deal with the Pacers is about to happen tonight. But hey... who the hell knows. Now this is interesting. If that's all the Raptors are offering, then definitely Hakeem's agent threw out that garbage rumor to get other teams to up the ante. I'm glad the Rockets didn't overreact. I would think though the Raptors' offer would be more than that because one would think that Hakeem could get the $4.5 million from a few teams... couldn't Indiana for one use that exception? Also, to make a sign and trade with the Raptors, the Rockets would have to get something decent in return they could keep, like a Keon Clark, or it wouldn't be worth it to the team. Meaning just outright letting Dream sign with the Raptors is better cap relief than using any kind of trade exception. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET [This message has been edited by Clutch (edited July 20, 2001).]
Well, that is assuming Dream doesn't just take their offer on the table. We haven't even reached the point that he decides to leave, let alone work out a sign and trade. Looks like the salary matches wouldn't be easy, though, depending on how much they gave him. If they gave him $7 million, Keon Clark's contract would be in the right range, however. Not to get anyone's brains cooking or anything. As for the Pacers, they have no exception so it would have to be a dollar-for-dollar deal. The Rockets aren't going to take on more than $4 or $5 million in salary, however, unless Indiana is willing to give up Jermaine O'Neal - FAT CHANCE! Derek McKey is on the books at around $6 mill next season with only next season left on his contract, but that may jeopardize the Rockets signing Taylor and still leaves a gaping hole at center assuming Cato and Collier are not enough. It's a wierd situation getting wierder. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Keon and the exception money is far and away the best possible sign and trade route. I like Harrington and Foster for the Pacers, but I just don't see them filling a needed role on this team. The only point in doing a sign and trade is to either get cap space and/or a quality center. ------------------ Here is the casual assumption that a choice must be made between goodness and intelligence; that stupidity is first cousin to moral conduct, and cleverness the first step into mischief; that reason and God are not on good terms with each other; that the mind and the heart are minor buckets in the well of truth, inexorably balanced- full mind, starved heart-stout heart, weak head.
I don't know anything about any players being involved in a trade for Hakeem but I wouldn't mind if we managed to get Foster and Harrington from Indiana. We shouldn't give up our future for Hakeem but I'm going to miss him very much.I only wish he wasn't so stubborn and was willing to take a pay cut,but I will never boo him even if ends up with the hated Jazz. He will always be the Dream for me. ------------------
Just to add to the confusion, CNNSI reported on their 10 pm segment that Toronto has offered Hakeem 4 years 22.5M. ------------------
That was from the Chronicle Friday. It is not accurate. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. I don't even know how the electric can opener works. - from Hannah and Her Sisters
