PTI that show on espn. micheal wilbon. tony kornheiser. they talk sports and what not. some guy called in. asked them to predict yao mings stats for next season. tony kornheiser said he would play ten games and then break his leg because hes a stick and he has no inside game. micheal wilbon said he would average 6 points and 4 rebounds per game. and would basically be another olawakhandi. he said hed average 3 blocks a game and thats the only reason hed stay in the nba. that was there opinion. take it for what its worth. i cant figure out whether i like or hate these guys.
Those guys are lumping him in with the Bradley's and Bol's o fthe world, those guys don't know anything about him. Notice they didn't talk about his rebounding, or his shooting ability? *Sigh* Some sections of the media don't bother to research anything. I could buy if they knew about him and said he would flop, but it's obvious they're going in the direction of "another Manute Bol".
Love the show......don't always agree, but one of the best shows to come along in a long while IMO. Anyway, I hope the Rocket's do take the risk on Ming, but he is a project.....just like Dirk was when he first entered, as well as the Clippers' center, who is just now coming along as a solid NBA player. Even though I strongly disagree with them, I do see where they're coming from.
LOL, that wasn't an actual call in. It was just people from the set. The one about Ming was done by Stat Boy. I think his stats will be like that in his first year too. Can't really expect a lot from him. TK was just being a smart ass about breaking his legs.
Ya...exactly. Just screwing around by the guys as always.... Damn I love that show. I want to be STAT BOY!
I don't think Ming will no trouble getting points, rebounds or blocks. I think he will do fine in the NBA. I am more worried about China pulling him off the team for some reason or him getting an injury or even Stevie passing him the ball once Ming starts getting all the attention in Houston and they start selling chinese food at the ball games.
Man, Kornheiser really dawged him. 10 games before he is sent back to China. Wilbon said 62 games, 6.9 pts, 5 and something rebounding, over 2 blocks.
Manute Bol wasn't a bad ballplayer. He couldn't bruise in the paint, but he was an excellent shotblocker and a decent rebounder (especially considering his lack of bulk). Barkley absolutely loves the guy, and Chuck doesn't take too kindly to weiners. I think if you take the positive qualities of all these bad centers you might be on to something. Imagine Smits offense, with Bol's shotblocking, and Olowakandi's one-on-one defense. If Ming was like that while being able to nab 9-10 rpg I would call that a definite success. I don't think anyone can honestly say he couldn't do that either.
dang it, i fell asleep and missed the 4:30 airing... and ESPN2 decided to air some tennis stuff during the scheduled 6:00pm showing! aargh! i LOVE that show, first episode i've missed ALL YEAR (and they have to discuss the rockets... typical of my luck!)
If Ming averages 6 and 4 next year he will be one of the biggest bust of all time. With all this hype im expecting atleast 14, 10, and 3.
I think Ming will average more like 12ppg, 8rpg, 2.5bpg. He'll prolly be a little streaky his first couple of yrs ala Eddie Griffin, but I think he'll have atleast a decent career. The problem is that is he worth the #1 pick? And is he worth all that trouble with China? I think the pulling him out thing is an exageration, and although he'll miss training camp, he'll be playing against tougher competition in the World Championships.
You can't teach height: CAREER BLOCKS 1. Hakeem Olajuwon --------- 3,741 2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ----- 3,189 3. Mark Eaton ------------------ 3,064 4. Patrick Ewing --------------- 2,849 5. David Robinson ------------ 2,706 6. Dikembe Mutombo -------- 2,642 7. Tree Rollins ----------------- 2,542 8. Robert Parish -------------- 2,361 9. Manute Bol---------- 2,086 10. George Johnson ---------- 2,082 Bol basically did this in only 8 seasons. He averaged 3.3/g! Manute averaged 10.9 rebs/game. His scoring was terrible, but IMO Yao will not have problems putting the ball in the hole.
Ya, ya, ya. That's all fascinating, but the Bullets (or whoever drafted Bol) didn't waste a #1 overall pick !
ugh...yea they did. Kwame Brown. Nevermind, that was the Wizards wasn't it? Keep up the good posts GATER.
If Ming averages 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game, that is a SERIOUS upgrade over Cato's 6 points and 7 boards. Think of all the games the Rockets lost by 3 or 4 points last year. Ming would put us over the top in all those games if he can produce. Plus, comparing Ming to Cato is ridiculous. Ming can actually shoot.
