More viewers are hopping on The Osbournes crazy train. Heavy metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon and kids Jack and Kelly continue to break records for MTV, as Tuesday's episode of the reality smash pulled in 7.8 million viewers--the most-watched series ever on the cable network. To put that in perspective, The Osbournes nabbed about the same number of viewers as ABC's The Practice Sunday night, and the show even topped a handful of MTV's previous Video Music Awards telecasts (though last year's show averaged 10.8 million viewers). Still, the ratings for Tuesday's episode--featuring a frustrated Sharon threatening to urinate into a Jack Daniels bottle, while one of Jack's friends moves into the house--marked a considerable jump for the series, no doubt thanks to endless media coverage and cover stories in Enertainment Weekly and Rolling Stone. The show also notched an impressive 7.3 rating among adults 18-34. Last week's installment averaged 6.3 million viewers and edged out the World Wrestling Federation to become the highest-rated show on cable, according to Nielsen Media Research. No word yet, however, on whether The Osbournes will be back for a second season. There are still two unaired episodes left before the series wraps up May 7. But after that, MTV said it will continue to air reruns of the series Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m. Meantime, E! is capitalizing on Ozzy-mania by airing a week's worth of Howard Stern episodes featuring the Osbournes. The appearances, which date back to 1996, feature all of the family members--including eldest daughter Aimee, who declined to take part in the MTV series. The episodes will air next Monday through Friday at 11 p.m.
Now that bastid P. Diddy wants in. He says nothing can replace the Osbournes, but he wants MTV to follow him around. Says there will be lots of cussing That's one show I will try not to watch.
I'll watch Lee and Friends starring Tommy Lee and his groupies. If you've seen his crib (especially the master bedroom), you know what I mean
Last night Leno asked Sharon if the Osbournes were coming back for a second season and she said "yes". What does that mean? More Osbournes but more importantly, hopefully, no P. Diddy! Osbournes got paid $200,000 for 10 episodes. Their new deal is worth $20 million over 2 years if the show goes well. Ozzy's record company is planning to release a The Osbournes Soundtrack in the near future. I can't believe its the most watched show ever on basic cable - 8 million tuned in last Tuesday Oh yeah and Aimee will appear on a few future episodes.
I have a hard time believing the show will be as good next year. The beauty of the this season is it was shot before all the hype and before it aired and caused the Ozzy love fest that we are in now. I have a feeling next season will have some of the family "acting" more in front of the cameras instead of being real. I also look for some lame cameos from stars trying to hype their own acting or music careers. I hope I'm wrong. os
Your not missing much. Too me its not that funny. Ozzy goes on a profanity laced tirade about every few minutes, and the kids get pissed because their parents wont let them have their friends over all the time. Thats what I've gathered from a few shows, but I could be wrong.
if you found tim conway's old man sketch from the carol burnett show funny (and who didn't?), then you'd find the osburnes funny. at least three times an episode, i'm dying laughing. btw, F (notice the capital letter) p diddy, the 21st century's mc hammer. there hasn't been another death in his posse to exploit, so he's gotta go and milk ozzy's success; go away. please. like yesterday. if mtv wants to follow around someone else (and tommy lee was a decent suggestion), two words: snoop dogg.
To me the Osbournes is so deeply, hugely funny that I don't even laugh - I'm just slackjawed and smiling the entire time. (A bit like I am with Strangers With Candy or Mr. Show or even King of the Hill.) It's like it's *beyond* laughter...
