Not practicing with team. Wants a new deal. Texans say negotiations are always tough. Don't understand why when it comes to your top tier players.

Hopefully the Texans learn that not rewarding your young players will come back and haunt you. Thought they were close to deal with Ryans but nothing has been announced since new agent was hired.

Crap. So we went from Dunta not going to OTAs or minicamps because he doesn't want to sign his Franchise contract to Demeco not going to show up to OTAs and minicamps because he wants his contract redone to Demeco firing his agent and deciding to show up after all to now Daniels not showing up because of HIS contract status. If this continues to get ugly, I hope that 5th round TE that Matt Jackson is so in love with turns out to be as good as he thinks.

The texans give a huge contract to smith, but they can't sign their own guys?

Not overpaying is one thing, but they seem to do that to.

At this point, I'm going to lean towards the Texans making the right decision. OD is still under contract, whether he likes it or not...same with Demeco. I'm not saying they don't deserve more, but I'm also one that thinks a player should honor the deal they signed. I truly believe the Texans aren't going to risk ripping apart 3 major parts of the core in one offseason. It makes bad football and business sense.

In the NFL the team can tear up the contract whenever they want. I am more inclined to support the player in the NFL.

If he is expecting a deal similar to what Kellen Winslow got, I think he'll be out of luck here.

OD may be the best TE in the game (arguably), but Winslow's contract is absurd. I wish they could leak what the Texans offered...it would be easier to make a decision on whether or not his holdout is justified or not.

Winslow's contract is the problem, that being said it could argued that this guy is the second most important player in this offense behind johnson before schaub.

OD is a nice player and all, but the Texans should not overpay him. James Casey may easily put up the same numbers.

I think the main issue is that the team is probably crunching numbers right now. They only have one draft pick signed to a deal and with many of their big name players like DeMeco, Walter, probably Slaton, Schaub's possible bonus and other players getting closer to when they have to resign, the Texans Front Office are probably prioritizing who they can go after and with what amount of money while not going 20 feet over the cap.

I get that this is probably OD's only spot to make noise and not completely disrupt the team but I don't see it being a big deal until after we have signed our draft picks.

right on concerning the Texans looking at how to maximize the dollar. They are likely projecting numbers and when numbers may be affected in one area and how that relates to the other players...We know the Texans want to put a good product on stage for us and they know what they got. They know OD is arguably a top 3 TE in the NFL right now, I can't help but think this will play out correctly, but having said that, I want Demeco and OD taken care of. They deserve multi year deals. (I really don't feel the same about Dunta though) They should NOT be the highest paid at their position though...Hopefully this will happen soon enough!

It's freakin' June. I don't know why big deals are being made of these situations, except maybe Dunta. If they miss half of camp, then I'll be a little worried. The fact of the matter is these guys are both still under contract for this year and they'd be plain stupid to sit out the season.

They'll end up getting paid when the time comes, whether it be this summer or after the season. OD is a tough call because he is partially a product of the system and playing next to Andre Johnson, but there is no doubt he has talent. You just can't tie up too much money in the TE position though.

Way back in the 70s and 80s, the Oilers under Ladd Herzeg ended up paying players quite well, but the animosity generated during negotiations put the team in a bad light. It seemed like every off-season there were fireworks because Herzeg was such a jerk. I hope this doesn't become a pattern with the Texans.

it sucks that because one team gave such a bad contract it is then used as leverage by other players. One ridiculous contract begets another.

LOL @ the Spanish on the FaceBook comment options:

    :D

I can see Darius on there... as another guy who didn't do so well with contracts... are all his friends just disgruntled players?

FYI, I support Daniels' holdout, if that's what players have to do. :( Someone's going to steal his job, though... isn't that the danger here?

It is probably that the other players not near contract negotiations don't want to leave evidence of supporting him or not on the internet for others to possibly see.

Unless James Casey is actually better then Owen and there is someone else in the Texans organization they could use to as great effect as they did Daniels as a public mouth piece, I don't see us not having OD as one of the priority signings. But they might be trying to low ball him something fierce.

    OD signs one-year tender
Article goes onto say that they're still trying to negotiate a long-term deal. I hope it gets done to everyone's satisfaction.

Second highest paid TE would be nice - I hope it's a luxury the Texans can afford!
