I hate Outlook Express. I'm working on a friend's computer and they're having issues with sending messages in Outlook Express. The only solution I can think of is reinstalling OE. Question is, if I erase and re-install, do the old messages get erased? What about the Address Book? If so, how do I back them up?
Search for inbox.dbx to backup the inbox... Address book extension is .wab What problems are you having sending?
Error message: 0x800CCC0E (it's a port 25 problem where it refuses to send messages out on the server, either due to a Firewall issue (I've disabled any and all firewalls), bad tcp/ip settings, or just a "broken" Outlook Express. It's happened before, but usually works; now it won't work at all. The only thing that may be related is that the wireless connection (in this case LAN since it's an older version of XP) is always different depending which USB port it is in (sometimes connection 5, 7, 10, or 8....and one of them actually picks up the neighbor's instead of this one). ==== Now when I backup the inbox, how would I "import" them back in, or would it be automatic? I'm also downloading Thunderbird to try and convince people that...I hate Outlook Express. EDIT: Just installed Thunderbird and the same problem is occurring. **** this. Any suggestions? It's now evidently a firewall, antivirus, server, port, or wireless network issue. EDIT2: I just switched the USB ports for the keyboard and Wireless Adapter: it now works. Makes no sense to me though...depending on where the Wireless Adapter is physically put into the computer (which of the 4 USB it goes), a different Local Area Connection # is assigned, different signals are picked up, and I cannot seemingly change these settings manually.
Im glad someone posted this because Im having problems with my OE as well. I cant get it to open. The message says: Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express Message Store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x800700C1, 193) Outlook could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Outlook express may not be installed correctly. I dont want to reinstall OE because I dont want to lose everything....all of my customers are in there. What can I do?
Sounds like it needs to be reinstalled. Since the address book can be saved/imported/exported, that's easy to keep. The messages are obviously saved...somewhere (in that .dbx file above in the second post perhaps). For a quick fix, you could just download and install Thunderbird...it automatically gives you the option to import EVERYTHING from Outlook Express on startup. Took only 10 minutes to get everything set up and it's almost identical to OE.
Mooch thank you soo much! It worked. I was trying to import Yahoo and Hotmail into it but couldnt get it to work.....any idea on how I can do that? I can see where I can "add accounts" but it doesnt respond. Oh and I apologize for hijacking your thread LOL.
