He's a defensive phenom. Teams need energy players like him, and he's got freakish athletic qualities as well. If he's there at 22 I'd pick him, no question. The Rockets probably won't even bring him in for a workout though. ------------------
There hasnt been much discussion from a Rockets perspective about Ousmane Cisse so I thought I would bring it up. The intriguing part about Cisse is that he apparently possesses a 91 inch wingspan which is crazy for a 6-8 player. Thus, he may be an inch or so undersized, but his long arms more than make up for it. Cisse is basically a lot like Donnell Harvey except with some more bulk, strength, etc. Thus, Cisse could be regarded as a better prospect than Harvey. As far as the Rockets go.... Considering they have 3 picks, I wish they would consider Cisse with one of them even though I doubt they will. Drafting a player like Cisse would go totally against their strategies of the past but this type of gamble would be worth taking with 3 picks imo. Anyone with inside info know if he's worked out for them yet? I havent heard anything on that. If I were in the Rockets shoes, I would use two of the picks to draft senior type players that can contribute immediately and use the third to take a flyer on a player like Cisse. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Yeah, I agree. I also heard he completely embarassed Tyson Chandler at a summer camp last year. ------------------
I agree that the Rockets should not repeat the mistake they made a couple of years ago when they passed on a high schooler with their third pick. I think Cisse's future could be just as bright as Lewis', and whoever gets him will be very pleased in a few years. Remember last year when the Jazz took a flier on DeShawn Stevenson late in the first round? Also, if the Rockets are going to take an unproven player with 23, I wish they would consider Gerald Wallace. He has even more athletic potential than Cisse and shares his work ethic and hustle on the court. ------------------
Is this the bandwagon for using number 23 on "Who's Tha Man" Cisse? If so where do I sign? Also could someone point me in the direction of these two bandwagons: Using #13 on the best available player regardless of position excluding probably only point gaurd. And the Gerald Wallace at 18 bandwagon; if someone could point me in that direction it would be much appreciated.
lurking... I mean working. I finally got a job which gives me less time to post, right now I'm studying to pass the A+ Exam.
I agree the rocks should get this guy with one of their later picks....hopefully the 23rd......He is a warrior like we all wish cato was......this is the kind of player we are missing....a young low post player that loves to rebound and block shots.....I love watching players that refuse to be out worked!!!! ------------------
I think we should take him because of my intensive research on him but mainly because DUKE says so! ------------------ I eat nutria now..courtesy of mc mark!!!
Who would you compare him to presently in the NBA?? BTW, I am not on any bandwagon related to Gerald Wallace. That guy is just too far away. Its all nice and dandy to draft players who need time to develope, but, interestingly enough, half those guys end up leaving their original team anyway-- Mcgrady, Oneal. I say pass on Wallace. He has way too many improvements to make. But I like Cisse from what I hear. ------------------ I hope, when they die, cartoon characters have to answer for their sins.
JayZ, the comparison I would use is Donnell Harvey with a better body and better defensive abilities. The other attributes are similar, slightly undersized in terms of height but makes up for it with extremely long arms, plays with a ton of heart and is a rebounding machine but sadly I doubt the Rockets are interested b/c he is a HSer and will need time to develop. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by MManal (edited June 08, 2001).]
"Does anyone know if Cisse has the speed and quickness to play the 3?" Cisse has the quickness to guard 3s, but he does not have the offensive game to play that position. I think he will start out as an energy player off the bench at the 4 spot that can provide rebounding, defense and intangibles. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
CHICAGO — Ousmane Cisse, one of a record six high school players to enter the NBA Draft and once considered a possible late first-round selection on June 27, is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, sources told FOXSports.com Friday afternoon. The 6-foot-8 Cisse, a McDonald's All-America, reportedly suffered the knee surgery on Jan. 5 and underwent reconstructive surgery seven days later. Cisse's guardian (the player is from Mali in West Africa but attended St. Jude High in Montgomery, Ala., the past two years) and legal representative, Don Jackson, didn't inform NBA clubs of the knee injury until they began scheduling "individual" workouts with the player this week in Chicago. Cisse, one of the stars of the July camp and tournament circuit last summer, didn't accept an invitation to participate in the NBA's pre-draft camp that ran from Tuesday until Friday night. The possibility that one of the 28 clubs holding a first-round selection would exercise that pick on Cisse seems remote, at best, now. Unlike college players, high school athletes who declare for the draft aren't able to pull their name from consideration by June 20 and retain NCAA collegiate eligibility. The extent of Cisse's "workouts" have included some very basic drills, sources said http://www.foxsports.com/nba/home/nba_news.cfm?source=st&cont_id=63455 Maybe we can pick up a 2nd round pick and nab him there. If the kid rehabs well, he would be well worth the risk. ------------------
For those on the Cisse bandwagon, you might want to remember he is only 18 and may well grow another inch or two. But, if the Rockets take him at #23, there is no space to draft T-Mo. Of course, there may be no need for T-Mo if we draft V-Rad at #18, and there may be no need for Cisse if we draft Randolph at #13. Aaaaaaah! The possibilities are endless. Will draft day ever arrive? ------------------
T-Mo and V-Rad, haha! I love this recent trend of abbreviating names like that, especially since it gives an eastern European guy like "Vladimir Radmanovic" a bizarre kind of Philly street cred. Still got my eye on P-Gas for the Rockets' pick, though.
Me an' P-Gas used to kick it at the club. ------------------ "If you don't understand it, don't try to understand it." -Carl Everett
Rumors, rumors, rumors... I've seen some posts that indicate Ousmanne is alive and well and "ate up" Ed Curry in a private Washington workout. Rumors, rumors, rumors... ------------------
