I haven't posted in a while but had a deep thought while on the throne and wanted to shake off the rust from posting.

Tmac and Yao represent young stars that are the foundation of this team. However, given their history of repeat injuries to the same areas of the body, we have to realize the possibility that the window with them may be closer to 3-4 years than 6-7. Not that Yao is Rik, but Smits' foot injuries cost him some productive years and limited his effectiveness in the last few years of his career.

More importantly, Les Alexander needs to understand this issue and start planning accordingly. If he wants to win with Tmac and yao, he needs to take a honest look at our roster and see how deficient our talent level is compared to the Spurs, Mavs, Heat and Pistons. I can't even remember the rules regarding exceeding the cap but Les needs to get into Luxury tax land and eat a few million in taxes.

We need to go a little marc cuban and see how it goes. I'm posting out of my butt a little here. Do we have many options with MLE, vet exception, etc?

Look guys... all I'm saying is that a piano could fall on Yao Ming's head between now and 5 years from now. Maybe sooner, mayber later than that. I just think we should all keep our minds on and plan for the day when a piano could fall on Yao Ming's head. I mean what the hell are we going to do? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!!!!!!!?????? **jumps out window**

    It's a small window.

    Thanks Sooner,

I was trying to find a pic without a random guy in it, but none of them really emphasized the "small window" cliche.

Oh, thank you. I was just too distracted by the chinese dude to figure out what he was trying to say. Plus, I didn't even think it was a window; more like a jail.

Actually the jail scenario kinda describes this season perfectly.

Our window; HA, we're still trying to figure out how to open the "window" We got a crowbar and a big ass rock but haven't figured out how to use them to get the window open yet.

I should go buy some lotto tickets or stock. My first post in months and Van Gundy gets on TV and announces that Tmac has 3 good years left.

I should get a seat next to Morey to make decisions.

    Wait a minute.

People thought our window with McGrady and Yao was 6-7 years? Where's the crack? I want some!

In my opinion it's definitely closer to 3-4 years of serious contention.

I think everyone is being too pessimistic with our window. Its too hard to tell. Especially with our draft pick coming in. I think we will be fine, especially with the emergence of Yao.

    Huh?

    How can anyone say this?

It all depends on who else is on the team, and what happens in transition afterwards.

I mean, Kareem could not carry a team but when Magic got there he started winning championships again.

Same thing here, if Tmac is not able to be INCREDIBLE every night he can still win as a better than average player if Yao goes off.

    And vice versa....

What this team needs is players with a "never going to lose" attitude, I think that Yao is showing that this year, and feel that we have a LOT of years to compete....but it all depends on the supporting cast.

I agree with DaDakota. People are just bummed from the season, understandably, but it's not like we're stuck with these players for good or the injuries wont stop. We had a down season. It's not the end of the world.

Some teams never have a window. We're lucky to be fans of one of the good organizations. I think our chances of winning it all are better than Dallas', even with all their great regular seasons.

It all depends on who we surround TMac and Yao with in the near future, the players we have right now don't impress me and cannot compete with the other role players in the upper echelon teams. I can't even think of one name that I can say "We need to keep that role player", all of them are expendable except maybe Luther because of his youth and upside. JVG has rolled the dices on personnel decisions and last year it paid off but inevitably was short lived because of the ages, this year was just one band aid move after another. Can we actually build a team that if the 2 franchise players go down, the rest of the supporting cast can hold the fort down until they come back...
