With teams scoring 110-140 points any given night. Did the NBA make these new rule changes to keep the top seeds closer to the pack?

Freedom of movement rules were an awful addition. Makes it impossible to play off ball defense.

The problem is we don't have any off the ball shooters outside of EG. Melo could play off the ball but we don't use him on offense at all

For a team that has older players and generally does not move well off the ball, this is more lethal than ever.

14 sec rule also hurts our switch-iso game which takes longer to develop because you have to force the switch, then get your rhythm, start your iso move.

it's really starting to look like nba was so disgusted by our tactics, that nearly knocked out the champs, that they bamboozled our entire offensive scheme this offseason.

Everyone is playing in a D'antoni offense.

D'Antoni is a style of play. Morey isn't. Morey believes that the environment changes and that the key is to adapt before your competitors do. He's always looking to get a jump on the next trend. Whether he did that effectively this year is an open question.

It looks like we're heading into a good era for cutters and a bad era for physical defenders. In that world, Ennis might be more useful than Ariza, and guys like MCW and Brewer might be more valuable than they were a year ago. But you can get caught between the new era and the system (D'Antoni's) you designed for the previous era. Think of that every time we park MCW for an open shot at the 3-point line.

It hurt the warriors too. They are giving up points like crazy.

I can't tell how much of the Rockets' defensive woes to this point are on the Rockets and how much are a function of the way the game is being called now.

I think the shoot clock rule more to do with the scoring that freedom of movement rule. Also it seems like no one is even trying to play D anymore.

The scoring is rediculous, you have to bring it every night more than ever.

Quality post that might go unnoticed here.

I think Morey is perfectly adept at adjusting, and to be fair, MDA isn't a slouch either. We aren't playing the true 7 seconds or less offense here, more of a hybridization. Seeing the comments in this thread you would think Houston lost Harden this off-season or something. The rockets are looking to late bloom this year, as are the warriors, as are a lot of competitive teams. Lowe was talking about how the warriors passing isn't up to snuff either. It's too early to wig out.

The freedom of movement rule is really odd. There was a lot of complaints in prior seasons about how long the games were lasting due to free throws or stoppage of play and the NBA decides "let's raise the number of fouls per game!"
