http://www.dfw.net/~patricia/contracts Are my numbers wrong, or does it show Howard's contract running three years longer than Cato's contract, at roughly one million less a year. Juwan Howard Six million a year for five more years. He is already 31 years old.
Offensively more productive but the guy sux at defense. I remember when he had a 21 ppg avg when he played for denver. The only problem is that rockets don't need more offense. Most likely the rockets will trade him or trade Mo T. Actually its prolly not even up to rockets since both contracts are bad.
That's part of the trade off. We have to take on his monster contract. I doubt we got Howard because we really wanted him. Most likely, we had no choice if we wanted to make the deal.
if the rockets had to take on a bad contract or two so be it. I'll be crying all the way to the finals
You have to take the good with the bad in a blockbuster trade like this. In this case, the good far out weighs the bad.
One of the deal breakers in this deal was J. Howard. I think I read somewhere that the real reason that the Suns got pushed out of the deal was because they didn't want to take on Howard's contract.
Sorry to jump in this one, but OUCH that brings back some memories i don't want to think of. But i am a bit more assured in this one because T-Mac didn't need some one like Jordan to make him look good. I mean Jordan put pippens face on so many posters. Just look in the back and you see pippen staring up at him...what face time he had.
I hate Snottie as much as anyone else, but he played very well in the 93-94 and 94-95 seasons (that is until the Kukoc incident)
Ben Wallace would be a good fit on most teams. We need to make do with what we have or acquire someone from a trade or free agency. After this trade goes down though, we won't have many tradeable assets, and certainly none that would bring Big Ben
It's not completely impossible that we'll be able to trade Howard. Sure, he's got a big contract, but he's a dependable scorer and rebounder. In fact, if you don't look at his defense, his salary isn't nearly as off-the-scale as Cato's is. My guess is that at worst, we dump him mid-season to some East team that needs help.
Howard's contract is worse for its length than it is for the yearly numbers. And he is an upgrade talentwise over Cato. I feel he can be a contributor. Clearly in getting Tmac we were going to have to take on some dead weight. I could think of a lot worse dead weight players to take on than Juwan Howard.
I don't mind having Howard. I would, however, hate to start the season with a Howard/MoT PF rotation. I suggest trading MoT to Seattle for Calvin Booth and either Potapenko or James. Then sign either McDyess or Eddie Griffin.
As far as I can tell, Van Gundy wants role players who will do the simple things he demands. Play aggressive defense, rebound, hustle, execute the offense, pass, don't throw the ball away, don't take dumb shots. If you do these things, you and he will get along fine. If not, he'll try to get rid of you and acquire someone who will. Howard might fit the bill.
I'll make an Bold Statement that Howard and MO T cannot possibly Co-exsist Together!!. one will be shipped!.Both Players are FINESS PLAYERS whom thrive on offense, but cant play any defense whatsoever!. the rockets with MO T, Howard Combo will get exposed against the Wests Wolves like KG, Duncan and Dirk!. this is why i think The Rox will make a push for eiher Etan Thomas or Kurt thomas!.
Yeah, that's bold all right. The bolder question is where will one (or both) land? Dealing either requires some deft moving, creativity, and perhaps a touch of luck. Because they're bad? No, because their contracts are.
If the Rockets don't or are unable to move Juwan Howard, he is really going to surprise a lot of Rox fans. Juwan is an upgrade over Cato at PF and has more low post moves than Taylor while having better range than Mo. IMO, one difference between Howard and Taylor is that once he mentally commits to making offensive moves, Taylor's ability to see the floor for a pass virtually vanishes. Juwan can end his series of moves with a pass. It would not surprise me if Juwan were next seasons version of Jim Jackson...an oft maligned, seemingly one dimensional vet who bounced around and then found a home under a strict task master.
