    http://www.thepennyhoarder.com/diversify-how-you-make-money/

I have a decent paying job. I want to see if here are other ways I can earn money without too much energy.

    Note:
I'm above half way to 10k emergency funds (my 6 month living expenses)
    I don't have any debt.
    No car note.
Still saving up for my own house (but this is possibly AFTER I find a girlfriend and get married)
^Which means I still have to save up for a wedding and a ring (or maybe I should find a girlfriend first)

I know about stocks. I'm looking to maybe go after stocks that are "safer" like the Vanguard index funds whatchamacallit. Because I'm not sure I can wrap my head around how stocks work like a pro, ever.

Opening up a business. I'm way too far from this. I barely have my own house.

So can you guys help me share your secrets on how to become wealthy?

You're saving up for a wedding and you are single?

    Mail order bride?

Do you have a 401(k) or an IRA?

    not to thread hijack but...
im in the same boat. decent job and my living expenses are low. i do have a car note but easily affordable with good interest.

i have about $18k in cash i could throw around but i dont know what to do with it. i know im losing money having it sit in the bank as inflation outpaces any interest i earn on it.
im not really a fan of the stock market as it is a major learning curve. (TBH hate the whole concept and the way it is abused)

Invest! Get the Robinhood app - it's commission-free for all domestic stocks. More specialized trading will cost the usual commission prices.

I'm only putting 3% in it right now. Thinking I'd bump it up after I have my own house or when I reach my 10k.

See, when you say stuff like this, it just flies over my head. I've done reading on stocks but it just seems too complicated.

Now that we know what Hustle Town thinks you should do with your money, we really need to hear from Swindle City.

OP, if you live in Houston, consider investing in an ice cream cart. It will really make you some cheddar once the hot summer returns. Okay, sure, there aren't really any pedestrians in town to patronize your cart, but you could serve the communities under the Pierce elevated.

Kidding on both accounts, sorry. Hustle Town, you're cool. I just think your handle is funny for giving $ advice.

OP, I don't have any good ideas. I do free lance work on the side but it's a ton of work for very little money.

Like you, I hate the rat race of the market, but it was good to me (and everybody else, I guess) in the 1990's. Investment wise, I (think) I lucked out with a long-term acquaintance who started a business and I angel invested. That could still go bust, but it looks good, and it was just lucky, being in the right place at the right time. And most sage advice would warn you against investing heavily in the adventures of friends or family. Often ends not well.

So that left with me with... the ice cream cart idea. That is definitely not a good idea.

That's actually really funny in hindsight. So, thanks for that. I originally thought you meant that I was trying to swindle people by mentioning Robinhood since it's a relatively new app.

Yeah... I don't know how others feel, but this is nuts to me.

As for other avenue streams, I don't know. Try an MLM? Organo Gold maybe. I knew a guy who did that.
