According to http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/story/129602p-115855c.html The Knicks have intensified their search to add a scorer after the Chicago Bulls rejected a deal earlier in the week that would have brought Jamal Crawford to New York, according to an Eastern Conference official. The deal would have allowed Layden to exercise a $2million buyout clause in guard Charlie Ward's contract, thus getting the Knicks roster reduced to 15 guaranteed contracts. The Knicks would trade Othella Harrington, a veteran with a reasonable contract who can play either center or power forward. Finding a proven scorer who can immediately step into the rotation is paramount for the Knicks, with Keith Van Horn and Allan Houston both nursing groin injuries. The Knicks also have a total of 11 power forwards and centers on the roster, including Antonio McDyess and Harrington both of whom are injured. Harrington, who will earn approximately $3 million this season, has a knee injury and is expected to be ready by next week. I did the math on http://www3.realgm.com/src_tc_path.php New York trades: PF Othella Harrington (7.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 0.8 apg in 25.0 minutes) PG Charlie Ward (7.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.6 apg in 22.2 minutes) New York receives: SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) Change in team outlook: +2.6 ppg, -4.9 rpg, and -2.5 apg. Houston trades: SG Cuttino Mobley (17.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.9 apg in 41.7 minutes) Houston receives: PF Othella Harrington (7.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 0.8 apg in 74 games) PG Charlie Ward (7.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.6 apg in 66 games) Change in team outlook: -2.6 ppg, +4.9 rpg, and +2.5 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to New York and Houston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. New York and Houston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This way we can get good P.F. (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/othella_harrington/index.html?nav=page) and P.G. (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/charlie_ward/index.html?nav=page ) which we need to support S.F. and lose S.G(Cuttino Mobley ) which we have alot of them (Adrian Griffin,Jim Jackson,Eric Piatkowski). I hope we can do it? can we?. _________________________________ Ability lies in the mind and the heart. For Cuttino Mobley we better get a hell of a lot more than Othella and Ward. How about they throw in McDyess or Kurt Thomas.
I would not do this trade unless it included Thomas and a 1st round pick for Griffin. Mobley is worth a lot more than OH (though I like his game) and please-pay-me-not-to-play Ward.
No way in hell that would ever happen. Layden woudn't be stupid enough to do that. CD would be raping the Knicks. Besides, they already have their scorer in Shadn Andersn...
IMO, Mobley's worth a lot more than Othella and a $6m player with a $2m buyout clause. Kenny Thomas is way better than Othella and (salaries aside), I'd have to think long and hard about that a KT for Cat trade. And the Knicks had enough of a problem getting Latrell and Allan Houston to mesh. Why would they want a repeat of the experiment?
Since he couldn't get Crawford for the (not so) Big O, Layden will turn his attention to Cuttino from Houston, to play next to (or ahead of) the 100 million $ man...? NY deal talks are the silliest and that's why NYK fans are hurting.
