They also said that the deal will be over 3 years at around $13-15 million per season. So it might be something like a 5 year $75 million, or 4 year $60 million type deal.
My bet is that it's a 4 year deal...something in between what both sides wanted. I don't think the $15 million per was even in question from either party, just the length. Great news if it gets done.
Guess all the mediots & fans who got their panties in a bunch after the trade deadline look a little silly right now.
Ortiz juat looks like more and more of an idiot/trouble maker every day doesn't he? It's amazing that someone is actually giving Richard Justice a run for his money as biggest idiot columnist in Houston ...
this from alyson footer: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASAp...t_id=1633488&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou Will the Astros re-sign Andy Pettitte, or will they turn to "propects" such as Jason Hirsh? -- Jacob K., Houston I think the Astros would like to do both. Hirsh will most definitely be in the mix for a starting spot during Spring Training next year. If Pettitte wants to pitch again, he and the Astros will discuss a contract. I don't know how much longer Pettitte wants to pitch, and he's still trying to decide if he wants to continue after this year. I'd say the odds are still 50-50. I also think if Roy Oswalt re-signs for '07 and beyond, Pettitte's desire to return will increase.
THis is great news...Now if we can get Andy another year or two, that would be great...The Rabbit will be pulled...uh, nevermind...
