So I'm taking an Intro into film analysis class and I thought it would be cool if I could try to keep a thread going for the rest of this semester where we can talk in depth about the films I'll be watching every Wednesday night for class. Through the first 3 weeks, we watched Monster's Ball, Bride of Frankenstein, and Snow Falling on Cedars. We can talk about those if you want, but I think it would make sense to just pick it up at the latest movie I just watched last night; the Shipping News. Great movie, I can't believe I didn't watch this when it first came out. If you saw this movie, I'm curious what your thoughts on it are. I don't know how you would classify this movie, but it's one of those films that gives you a sense of hope for all people in general. I already forgot what exactly he says, but the last line in the movie, Spacey basically says that a broken man can be fixed. I really liked the music and I enjoyed the pace and the way the story unravelled slowly at first, but then everything just came to light very quickly near the end. A part I need some clarification on, did his parents commit suicide? Actually, I know that they did, I was wondering if anybody remembered what his father said on the recording where he talks about the burial instructions. Also, the headless corpse, was that the man who had owned the Hitler boat? I sit in the very back of the class and don't always see or hear everything quite well. On a side note, I must say that Cate Blanchett, even when playing a slut/b****/child neglector, is quite mesmerizing. I don't know how else to say, the women is beautiful.
I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s on my list to see. Fadaway! Give it up man. There’s nobody here who can speak to this one like you can. What did you think of it?
The Shipping News? Is that the one where Kevin Spacey works at a newspaper and then moves up to Newfoundland? The one part I remember is that lady stealing the ashes of that dead guy and then pissing on them... I can't remember many specifics since I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember it being a pretty good movie...
The trailer for the movie just really made me not want to see it. That is a much more recent movie than anything I saw in my film class last Spring. I think the most recent movie we saw was The Sixth Sense. Agree on Cate Blanchett, though.
