I usually try to catch some of the red carpet action on E! before the main even. Usually Billy Crystal has a good opening bit that I'm looking forward to. Afterwards it's back to E! to catch some of the party action. I just hope the actors don't start getting to politcal but I think that's a given this year.
i suppose i'll watch the red carpet part too... just so i don't have to skip cojo's segment on "entertainment tonight" monday evening. that annoying little phock.
Yeah, I get sick of the political stuff too...but I guess if the actors work as hard as they do to perfect their craft so they can win the biggest of the awards and they decide to spend their small amount of time furthering their politcal agenda, that's their perogative I hope Return of the King wins Best Picture.
It would be especially funny if one of those guys, in particular, says something anti-war. "When I get gone eviscerating evil orcs for the day, after I've cleaned my sword, I sit back and think about how stupid it was to invade Iraq..."
I'm watching, and I'm expecting Return of the King to triumph with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Score, Best Song, and several others. Anything less would be an abomination.
We'll be watching. Got to see "Lost in Translation" last night and loved it. Maybe it helps that I spent some time in Tokyo and Kyoto. (just several days, but enough to get a feel for the place) I hope "Rings" gets best picture and director, but that "Translation" gets best original screenplay. And Bill Murray was awesome in a wonderful, understated performance. If he gets best actor, I'm cool with that.
I'm not watching. A bunch of pompous, holier than thou, filthy rich Hollywood millionaires patting eachother on the back for 4 hours while Joe Sixpack (you and me) is supposed to worship the ground they walk on? No thanks. Todays movies suck anyway. They just don't make them like they used to. Sorry, a little bitter today.
I'll be watching. And rooting for Mystic River, Clint Eastwood, Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, and Benecio Del Toro.
Saw Mystic River last night and I really thought it was a great movie, better than Lost in Translation, and pretty damn close to the Return of the King. Sean Penn gives an amazing performance. That being said, I predict Return of the King to win Best Picture, Peter Jackson Best Director, Sean Penn Best Actor, Charlize Theron Best Actress, and probably Tim Robbins as Best Supporting Actor. As long as Renee Zellweger doesn't win best supporting actress for her caricature in Cold Mountain I'll be happy.
"Giddyup." - Kramer I'll be watching... and waiting for nomar's eventual drunken rant after a total LOTR Oscar domination.
I'm not going to rant. I just think Mystic River is a much, much, MUCH, better film. Supporting Actor is a win-win-win scenario for me, since I liked Robbins, Watanabe, and Del Toro. I do think Del Toro should walk away with it though for sure. Travesty if Theron beats Watts.
I guess LOTR is Titanic for boys. I do think Coppola is going to win Best Director, though. It may not end up happening, but I think they're going to give it to her (even though she could simply be honored for Best Original Screenplay). Having just seen "Chicago", I'm not sure it's that much of an honor to win Best Picture.
Owen Wilson to that entertainment tonight lady, who helped in ET's super bowl coverage in houston.. "are those real?"
We changed channels to CNN and their red carpet coverage is much better. I'm just sorry it took awhile to figure out they were doing it! Hey, the real thing starts soon.
