Does Oscar Torres deserve to be the Rockets starting 3?

    HELL YES!

    Should we start him?

    HELL NO!

This is the crappy thing to do but if we give Torres starter minutes I have a feeling he will put up big numbers. Something along the lines of 13pts, 5rbs, 4asts. Along with excellent defense.

If this happens the rockets will not be able to sign him next year because other teams will be able to offer him more than the rockets will.

We need to limit Oscar's minutes to about 15 to 20 a game so he will be in our price range.

I dont believe thats the case. I think Oscar will be thankful to therockets when the contract talks happen because they gave him his 1st oppertunity. he'll stay here 4 a while

Along the lines of where he might sign, do you think Houston having a large Spanish-speaking population makes any difference? It's interesting to speculate on what matters to NBA players. I suppose there's nothing to stop him from settling his family here but play for a team in a different city.

Doesn't San Antonio have a LARGER spanish speaking population?

I am very worried about Oscar bolting, the guy is a keeper and will only get better.

Most of all, he is pure class.

Oh yeah he'll definitely stay if we bench him and limit his minutes so he can't succeed...

He had a choice between Seattle and Houston this offseason, and he chose Houston mainly because his agent is based in Houston.

I don't think Oscar's the type to just bolt town for greener pastures, I'm sure we'll be able to keep him...

    Band Geek Mobster:

It all depends on how you spin it, and accourding to Olajuwon there pretty good at it. Just let him come off the bench for the rest of the year and when contract time comes up give him a nice deal at the most we can offer (similar to what Moochie got but make it LESS years) with the promise of being the starting 3 ala Shandon Anderson.

Don't panic guys. We'll be over the cap, so we'll have the mid-level exception to use.

So, let me get this straight:

You think that Oscar will put up good numbers - numbers that will help us to win ballgames, yet you would rather have him come off the bench??!!

I'm sorry, but you can spin this anyway you want, but the bottom line is that would be a stupid and asinine thing to do.

As a matter of fact it is laughable.

Keep on laughing because when Torres goes to another team next year for about 5 mill. a pop your going to be whinning and b****ing. As far as Torres being able to help us win some more games by starting then get real. So what he might be able to help us get to .500%. Big freaking Deal!

Im sry but thats just plain wrong in my opinion. If torres goes they offer him a LOT!!! and if he strts and helps, then we still have a CHANCE to get 2 the playoffs. We r wut? 6 games out?
    I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!

It would be wrong of the Houston Rockets to bench Torres for their financial benefit. I say you let the man play and show his ability. I am confident that we can resign him when the time comes. The Rockets are gradually growing a reputation of being underhanded. The last thing they need is to add to that.

What to do with Torres is one of the more crucial issues for the team. Offensively he is the most prolific scorer on the team. This is from a minutes played standpoint. Also he is one of only 2 rockets shooting over 50% from 2pt. I would say that the objective should be to get him at least 25 mins a game. He is the exact opposite to Tmo at the moment. It does not matter whether he starts but he should get those kind of minutes. The best way to do that would be to play him 15 minutes behind Mobes at the 2 and 10 minutes at the 3.

The dillema is that Oscar is definitly more of a 2 than a 3 and we are covered at that position with kenny, EG, walt, glen, lanky among others. We just forked over major bucks to Cat. If we cant convert him into a solid 3 (which i think we cant because he's just not big enough) we should sign him and trade him for a legit big man. It's no use to try to give him minutes anywhere but the 2 unless we have injuries which we do now. Therefore next season we should sign him and trade him.

Eh, that plot seems a bit too machiavellian for me, shady. Oscar's a good guy... if he can play his way to a big contract, more power to him. I want him to remain a Rocket... but I don't want it to be because of dirty tricks.
