I guess this is sort of a weird place to ask, but since so many people use this board I thought why not. Do any of you all have a recommendation for a doctor that specializes in sports medicine or orthopedics because I need to find one quickly. If not, what is a good website? I checked AMA and AAOS, but I wanted something with reviews and more info.
I was referred to Dr. First by my general practitioner when I was having knee problems. Turned out it was a simple case of "bi-partite patella" or having a two-piece knee cap. The doctor was courteous and seemed concerned with my condition and answered all of my questions and urged me to come back to see him if I had any further problems. Apparently he's worked with some of the Rocket's players also. He's also got one heck of a resume. Oh yeah...he's located in the Clear Lake area. http://betterhealth.net/modules/phy...ysicians.asp&intPhysicianId=30652&strKeyword=
Woodlands Sports Medicine Centre, 1441 Woodstead Court Ste 200 281-364-7752 Excellent practice with great doctors. Good luck.
If its a hand problem, Dr. Korsh Jafarnia in the Houston area is a top dog. He is fresh out of residency from Harvard.
Baylor Sports Medicine Institute. I had my ACL done by the Rockets team doc, Walter Lowe, and my roommate just had his elbow scoped by the Astros doc, Bill Bryan.
Thanks for all the help. I think I'm going with this one Buck. My only concern is that I don't think I need surgery, I just want a diagnosis. So do you think the doctor is pretty conservative with treatment or is gung-ho for surgery. boomboom-that link didn't work, but thanks GreenVegan-thanks for the rec., but that's pretty far
It depends on a lot of things; first thing he or his resident will do is xrays, a physical evalutation & if they think necessary, tell you to go get an MRI. A lot of factors determine whether or not he'll perform surgery: type of injury, your age, your desired level of physical activity, etc.... He told me I didn't have to have my ACL reconstructed, but given that I'm 28 & play sports all the time, it was really a no-brainer. If they're covered under your insurance plan, go see 'em. Can't hurt.
Alright, thanks. Do you know the best way to contact them? I found this site: http://public.bcm.tmc.edu/ortho/physicians.htm Which number should I call or who should I talk to?
713-986-6100; say you're a new patient & need an initial diagnosis. The doc you want depends on what body part is affected. Ankles & knees - Dr. Lowe; shoulders, elbows, hands - Dr. Bryan; Dr. Esses (listed under "Spinal Disorders") is their recommended neck & back guy. All of the guys on that list under "Sports Medicine" are very good.
