I could see the Rockets trading out of #8 if their guy isnt there and if they felt they wanted someone like Mo Ager who would be there at #11. But if the Rockets did trade down from #8 to #11, what should the Rockets get as compensation?

They have the 41 and 44 pick in the 2nd round. If we could find a sleeper or two there I would consider the trade. If we made the trade and acquired their top two 2nd rd picks we could also package some or all of the 2nd rd picks to get another 1st round pick maybe Nets 23rd pick.

See it is stuff like this that is going to cause a rift in the management between JVG and CD/Morey.

JVG is in the last year of his contract, and if we don't get a pick that is at LEAST a contributor he is going to blow a corpusal !

I would bet JVG would rather trade the pick for a solid NBA player, and upper management may be wanting to take someone who could develop.

Gonna be rough, if you ask me.

The Orlando Magic are trying to move up from No. 11 in the June 28 NBA draft and, according to league sources, have talked to two teams in hopes of improving their chances of landing either Connecticut small forward Rudy Gay or Duke forward/center Shelden Williams.

They are dreaming about landing Rudy Gay. I can't see Gay falling out of the top 4.

Shelden Williams just might be available at the 11th pick. I could see the Rox picking Shelden with the 8th pick and trading him for Orlando's 11th if Brewer or Carney are still on the board. BTW I thought Dwight Howard was Orlando's future at the 4.

Dwight Howard and the 11th Pick for our 8th. :D Or they can just give us Dwight Howard and we give them the 8th. Get it done CD.

I thought Van Grumpy signed a contract extension last offseason?

Trading down could be attractive, especially if the Rockets are seriously targeting Carney/Brewer and think one of them will still be available.

That said, I can't imagine anything that Orlando could give us that would entice us to pass on the opportunity to draft one or the other if that is the player the Rockets truly want.

If the trade is a swap for two second rounders, F that. This is a low talent draft (starting/nonstarting role players in the first 20, crap afterwards) and we need starters, not 10 minute bench players or projects.

    Nice find Deuce.

Similar situation in 2000 when we traded down from 9 to 15 with Milwaukee, taking Jason Collier. I was so disappointed when that happened that year. The compensation in that deal was an extra first round pick the following season, which was used in the Eddie Griffin trade.

I don't think we could get an extra first rounder for just 3 spots, but I don't know if two mid-second round picks are that interesting to me, even with all the help we need. Orlando is a franchise I have no interest in helping either, so I would hope they wouldn't do this unless it's very solid compensation. I'm sure that would have to be the case since even if the Rockets like players a touch farther down, they wouldn't risk losing one of their top choices by having 3 more teams select ahead of them. Too much could happen.

I am not really sure it makes sense to deal with Orlando- but if they are willing to take Howard Back why not?

Seriously- I hope they are not talking about Keyon Dooling!

Arroyo is not bad- but I really think we should focus on the PF slot ( for the draft) and Sign a SG through Free Agency ( Bonzi if we can afford him or Matt Harpring)

I don't see why.. I can easily see Thomas, Aldridge, Morrisson, Bargnani, and Roy going before Gay. And after that, it's a crapshoot...someone might go for need with Marcus Williams or Rondo. I don't see Gay falling out of the top 6 and mayyybe 7 with that "need" pick. I see what you're saying, but I don't think they hafta dream TOO hard for Gay to fall a little

No way do I want to trade down in this extremely top heavy draft.

That being said, what do you think the #8 and #32 could get us? Maybe the #6? I feel that due to the nature of this particular draft class, the #6 position is MUCH more favorable than #8.

I think at #6 we still have a shot at players like Morrison, Gay, and Roy, who would all be great for us, but at #8 I get the feeling that we'd be "settling" rather than "getting our man".

At #11...forget about it, unless management actually has a guy like Ronnie Brewer at the top of their board for some reason, or *gasp* J.J. Redick

I would not be surprised to see Toronto take Gay with the number one pick. 3 is a bigger need than the 4 for them.

Who knows where Gay will land in the draft? He is one vicious rumor away from being taken in the bottom half of the first round.

But looking at the draft how many of the players have allstar potential? Gay is one of them.

What about #11 and Trevor Ariza for the 8th pick.

I like what I have read about Brewer. His game might be better suited for the NBA versus college. He could be THE sleeper in this draft.

I would like to have Turkoglu personally. A proven shooter that is 6'10(I believe he grew while at San Antonio/Orlando from 6'8=9 to 6'10)-sorry Ryan Bowen but he can shoot. Hey we need a long big man and he fits the bill. I'd take him plus their 11th pick and if ther was any way to get one of their 2nd rd. picks so that the Rox could either go Euro while leaving him there in Europe or pick someone as a sleeper that late... 11th pick take best player available no matter the position PF, SF, G whatever... Yeah even if its JJ Redick...

I would do that in a heart beat. But no way, Orlando gives up Ariza.

Maybe if we through in Rafer... but still unlikely. Arroyo would probably be compensation.

Maybe my post came off the wrong way.

I AM VERY MUCH BEHIND PICKING RONNIE BREWER!

I'm just saying I'd be very surprised if he were #1 on the Rockets draft board, above guys like Roy and Gay. Like I've said in other threads, if it's between Brewer and Carney at #8, I'm for Brewer all the way and you can quote me all day long on that.
