The Rockets are definitely involved in talks with the Magic -- that is 100% for certain. I thought this was interesting though as the paper cites a source saying what the Magic want from the Rockets.

DeVos hoping T-Mac's heart is in Orlando

According to one source, the Magic have asked the Pacers for as many as four players -- Ron Artest, Al Harrington, Jamaal Tinsley and Jonathan Bender -- in exchange for McGrady. To make it fit under salary-cap rules, the Magic would have to send at least one other player, likely Juwan Howard.

Walsh told the Indianapolis Star that only star power forward Jermaine O'Neal was untouchable.

Sources say the Magic have asked the Rockets to send back Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato, which would give them a new starting backcourt and a big man. Those sources also indicate the Phoenix Suns might be in the mix, talking with Orlando about acquiring Shawn Marion, Joe Johnson and center Jake Voskuhl for McGrady.

I would have to agree with you there. The Magic can do that ... up until McGrady starts setting some terms. My understanding is the Rockets are trying to get T-Mac without giving up Mobley, but take a grain of salt with that.

That's one hell of a lot, Clutch. It would have to be for McGrady+, right? Hope his back is OK. And we'd need to be assured that he signs an extension with the Rocks. Any word on how that plays out?

Glad to hear we're talking. Thanks for the news.

Too much to give up imo for any superstar not a big man and/or not named Michael Jordan.

Looks like it might not be a bad idea, But we are going to need to find a new point guard and another 4 since we probably dont want MoT starting.

Good to hear that the Rockets are in talks, but Indy's offer sure does look good. They are sending a lot youth and athleticism, but they don't get a star in return.

After the Detroit-LA serias, I start to think that the price is too high for us to get T-Mac. We can get more good players instead of a SUPER STAR. Maybe I am wrong.

Francis, Mobley and Cato is a pretty steep price to pay, even for a superstar like T-Mac. If Rockets management is willing to give up this trio, I don't see how any other team could match it. The players involved in the proposed Indiana and Phoenix deals don't come close.

i would do it. We may be set back for a year. But after that we could really be contenders. Im sure either gooden or howard would have to be included in this deal. And a point guard who can shoot shouldnt be hard to find. And what cato does we could find someone else.

yeah, you're right the minute McGrady declares he wants out and suggests some teams he would like to go to his price drops then... right?? the Magics position isn't as strong to ask for that when McGrady says he walks for nothing at the end of 2005 if you don't trade me to teams x or y or z

i can't believe what that asking of Indiana that makes what they want off the Rockets look fair

I don't know, that Indiana deal might be more tempting than ours. Does it make enough of a difference to trade him within the conference?

if this is the case, no thanks Orlando. seems to me PHO and IND's offers are better. I want McGrady as much as the next guy but I'm not about to let THREE STARTERS go for one guy

I would do it if they threw in Gooden.

It's time to mix it up.

not going to happen unless a third team is involved that gives the rockets their pick or a decent player to play point...

Call me stupid, but I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. If anything, it clears up some cap-space. We can then go shopping...

Three starters who have done what exactly? Chances are, we'de be getting back Gooden or Howard in the deal too. Wouldn't give up 3 starters for 2? You wouldn't trade Francis and Mobley for McGrady?

This is the exact deal that I've been proposing in terms of being fair, doable and working under the salary cap:

    Francis
    Mobley
    Cato

    for

    T-Mac
    Howard
Lue or Declerq (for salary cap purposes)

I'd do it. I know that with the Pistons win there is a wave of supporters of "winning as a team" but lets face it: Stars win championships. It doesn't happen every year, but it sure as hell happens more times than not.

BTW we can't sign Mcgrady to an extention because he can't opt out of his contract until next offseason. He has an opt out next year no matter what. So there is a chance that things could blow up in everyone's faces and T-Mac decides to walk next year. But I'd be willing to take that chance. Because I think Yao and T-Mac can really be something special.

I'd do it. Get the superstars now. You can always add role players around them in the future.
