http://orderofthecourt.blogspot.com/2010/04/dream-accomplishment.html we all know about Dream's quad double but its always nice to keep reading about it
That article made it sound like a cheaper and more superficial achievement accomplished by the entire team coordinating to get him the stats rather than coming from the flow of the game.
Random Rockets facts regarding quadruple doubles : Hakeem was originally credited with another quadruple double about 3 weeks before this game, but the NBA took away one of his assists from that previous game which killed his quadruple double. His numbers were even more impressive in that game, I think. Clyde Drexler missed a quadruple double with the Rockets by 1 assist once. He also missed a quadruple double by 1 rebound (I think) with the Blazers. Wilt was probably collecting quadruple doubles regularly.
Don't worry. What's impressive about a quadruple double is that it's almost impossible to do by having your team coordinating it in your favor. This is simply because you can get a guy points and to a lesser extent, rebounds, but it's tougher to "give" a guy assists (somebody still has to hit the shot), and I don't know how in the heck you "give" a guy blocks or steals. Of course there is that chance the statistician gets happy with his stat-giving, which does happen in my opinion.
For fun (aka, wasting time at work getting paid for it), here are the players to get at least 8 or more in 4 categories (quadruple-8s+) since 1986-87: 8 ASSISTS; BLOCKS, POINTS, REBS, (no STEALS) http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=uGKE5 8 ASSISTS; POINTS; REBS; STEALS (no BLOCKS) http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=XUFYL Since '86-87 no player has gotten 8 in these 4 categories: ASSISTS; BLOCKS; POINTS; STEALS (no REBS) ASSISTS; POINTS; REBS; STEALS (no BLOCKS) BLOCKS; POINTS; REBS; STEALS (no ASSISTS) basketball-reference.com and stat tracking is nice, but man it can be tedious work
I just noticed on wikipedia that Larry Bird apparently missed a quadruple double by 1 steal...... in a game he sat out the 4th quarter. WTH?
What were the most steals in a game by the Dream? Anyone know? Steals, like blocks, are another stat you can't "pad." Hakeem, in any event, was The Master.
Basketball-reference says he's had 8 steals 3 separate times, but those stats only cover since the 1986-87 season.
Looking for some exclusity - Since '86-87, Hakeem is the ONLY player to get at least 7 Pts, Rbs, Blocks and Steals in the same game: http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/tiny.cgi?id=3vglx Code: TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS 17 6 7 12 4 5 38 (Doubt overtime game, but no one else has ever done that even with multiple overtimes ) Slobbing on Dream's knob no homo or homo whats it matter, its how I'm forever a Rocket's fan.
