I was peeling an orange the other day without a knife. When you do it without a knife, you have to dig a hole straight through the peel with your nail and then work your way out. When I did it, it seperated the nail from the finger a little bit right at the top and it's been hurting me ever since. Last night, I couldn't sleep for two hours because the thumb would smart everytime it brushed against anything. The whole nail seems slightly bruised. The odd thing is, I know this orange peeling injury has happened to me a couple of times before. And, I suspect it's an injury suffered by millions of Americans every year. It's a pandemic and yet, no one talks about it. A google search for Orange Peel Thumb found no hits about this injury. Don't be embarassed to talk about it. We can't educate people about the dangers of peeling oranges with your nails if people won't talk about their experiences. Tell the world about how you've been afflicted. Be safe; use a knife to peel oranges.
That's brutal dude. You should go to the ER before it gets worse and you loose the entire hand. Failing that, I'd tape the nail down to keep it from moving around. Also, I once lost a fingernail to a head of lettuce when I slammed it into a wall to pop the core out... a finger sunk into the lettuce and under the nail.
Thanks for that important public service announcement. Just a head's up, but you might also want to be careful with the edge of a sheet of paper.
Anybody ever had black peel big toe nail? I was wearing uncomfortable shoes a couple years ago and played basketball in the shoes a few weeks thinking I'd be able to break in the shoes. Anyways my big toe nail just got more agitated and first it turned purple then darker and eventually the whole toe-nail fell off.
Ever since I was a young child back in... STFU, you pansy. Stick your index finger into the top opening (where the orange was attached to the tree), then pull the peel to the side. Begin here. With practice, you too can prevent NAIL PAIN. A reference for all coffee-makin' JuanValdez's in the rest of the world:
No that never happened. But a while back my teeth and gums started really hurting then a few hours later all of my teeth just fell out. It was kind of nuts. But right soon after, my toothless gums started swelling up quite a bit and became quite painful. I started pressing on them on my fingers and they started popping all over like ripe zits. But what did I find inside? A whole new set of teeth! They were as good as new! Now my mouth is perfectly back to normal and I haven't had any problems since then.
Orange Thumb Baby... Orange Thumb Baby... Alright stop peelin your orange with your finger It could cause a pain that lingers... uh. nevermind.
I once had the middle finger nails on both hand come off at the same time. I had gotten a manhole cover dropped on my fingertips. After a couple of days, the nails fell off. I was young, about 12 years old. So I kept the nails and while the new ones were growing in, I would slide the old ones in and pretend I was biting my nails. Then I'd pull out the nail with my teeth and scream. I would freak people out.
