I don't think many gave KU a real chance and thought Mizzu deserved a BCS game more. Well, with 9 minutes to go, it's KU up 24-14. This is great for the Big 12, especially after OU's choke job last night.
Because of the Bulls/Blazers game and the election news, I haven't watched one second of this game. I'm so glad WVU vs. OU was on last night.
24-21 KU with about 3 minutes to go. VT just drove straight down the field and scored. This is a great game so far.
It's over...KU 24 - VT 21 Congrats Jayhawks! I guess they should have been there. If it wasn't for OU sucking balls, the Big 12 would have had the best bowl season of any conference. UT killed ASU. Mizzu absolutely destroyed Arkansas. Heck, even Tech won against a good Virginia team.
Being that I was born in Kansas and growing in my childhood well, the 'Hawks and for that matter the 'Cats NEVER won. Hell, they didn't even compete. This was the normal score vs Okla or Neb., 56-0; 63-0; 70-7 ... pick a number it was almost ALWAYS that bad! So yeah, I'm proud of my 'Hawks! A BCS bowl champion and more than likely a top 5 finish in the polls? All this and finish ahead of the Sooners in the polls? How sweet it is! Congrats to Man-GENIUS and the little engine that could, the KU Jayhawks! Now called BCS Orange Bowl Champions!
Yep, but, A&M and OU couldn't keep up with the pace. A&M should have won that game but, found ways to shoot themselves in the foot meanwhile, OU obviously was having an out of body experience because once again for the 2nd time in 4 years, a non factor in a BCS bowl game.
I hope you're not implying that somehow this proved that KU deserved a BCS bid over Mizzou. Look, I'll give KU their props, they came out, played well and won the game... just like Mizzou did on Tuesday. But Mizzou had the same regular season record while winning head-to-head and winning the Big 12 North. They were and still are the more deserving team, regardless of what happened tonight. The final polls will be interesting, with respect to how the elite Big XII teams stack up. KU finishes with one loss, MU with two and OU with three... but MU beat KU head to head and OU beat MU head to head (OU and KU didn't play, of course). Somebody will have a legit beef here...
Yep... The Texas Tech vs. Virginia game was a BIG snoozer. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OioqgFhNFl0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OioqgFhNFl0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
^^^ BCS was the key point to pick up on fatty Good to see the Big XII looking good. I admit I wasn't expecting to see that from Kansas last night, I'm happy for them. Still no jobs for Mangino
Maybe not over Mizzou, but KU proved they belonged right where they were. They beat a very good VT team. Mizzou beat an average Ark. team. I don't have allegiances to either team and really couldn't have cared less which one got there. KU got it and they represented the Big 12 very well.
In retrospect, Mizzou should have played Georgia but, I guess there's some rule that only 2 teams per conference can represent in the BCS! Unfortunately! It certainly would have been a far more entertaining Sugar Bowl no doubt. i tried to cheer for Hawaii in that game but, damn you got to show up. That was embarrassing to watch 41-10 didn't even begin to scratch the surface.
Not sure how anyone has a beef; 1 loss, 2 losses, 3 losses - seems like an easy decision. Especially with the 1 loss team winning a BCS bowl. I could see OU being upset if Missouri jumped them I guess.
Missouri is already ahead of Kansas in the polls. Look, normally I'm with you -- overall record outweighs one particular game because anything can happen. But this is a special case because the only reason Missouri has a second loss is because they were good enough to play in an extra game (Big 12 title) that KU wasn't good enough to qualify for. Also disagree with whoever said Arkansas was an average team -- they were ranked and just beat the likely national champion at their house and went 8-4 in the SEC. They're not elite, but they're a good team.
In all honesty, who cares? So KU got to go to the Orange Bowl and Mizzou had to go to the Cotton Bowl. The only real argument for Mizzou being harmed is that it might bring a little more prestige to be in the Orange over the Cotton Bowl. Mizzou will finish in the top five, in all likelihood above KU. Every talking head in the world said Mizzou should be in the Orange over KU, so it's not like fans are getting tricked into thinking KU had the best season of the teams. The conferences equally share bowl revenue between all of the teams in the conference, so there is no financial loss for Mizzou. Undoubtedly more Mizzou fans got to see the game in person in Dallas than would have in Miami. I'll say that you might even argue that Arkansas was a better opponent than VaTech, despite records and rankings. . . additionally Mizzou benefitted from the publicity from the Chase Daniel/Darren McFadden Heisman finalist matchup, which could benefit his Heisman candidacy next year....
Cotton Bowl payout per team: $3 million Orange Bowl payout per team: $17 million I'm sure Mizzou cares plenty.
I'm plenty sure you didn't read my post: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/big12/genrel/auto_pdf/big12-handbook-complete.pdf
Ah, I didn't see that part. Sorry. Still, there's greater prestige and probably more eyeballs watching the game for a BCS bowl versus the Cotton Bowl. Extra revenue or not, I'd still be plenty miffed if I was Mizzou.
