We need a 2 guard in the worst way. Someone we can draft that can shoot from outside and defend, athletic and long. I haven't kept up with college BB much. I was wondering about some players I read about, does anyone have some information on them- Rodney Carney- Memphis Richard Roby- Colorado Maurice Ager- Mich. St. Any other 2 guard prospects that will be on the board at the 10-11 pick?
Yeah, we do need that. But I highly doubt we'll fill that need through the draft. I'm even skeptical whether we can fill it through trade or free agency.
I question Redick's defense and ability to create his own shot in the NBA- good spot up shooter though... Brewer- hear he plays no defense and is not consistent with his jumper. Roy- will he be around at 9-10?
With Orlando, you never know... I'd say drafting Roy or 1 of the 2 Duke stars is a very realistic possibility as late as we're picking this year... As for the second round, Dee Brown, Mike Gansey, Kevin Pittsnogle or Allan Ray would be good projects IMO.
funny you mension him...i had a dream last night that we drafted pittsnoggle in the second round and i was the one that made the call. weird freaking dream. anyway... i see us taking the most NBA ready player available. regardless of possision or skillset. however the rest of the draft is still a mystery. i could throw a mock together using info from nbadraft.net, draftexpress.com, and espn insider...but that wouldn't prove anything. i can, however, tell you that all of those sourses have roy going too high for us.
I like both Duke guys. If we get Sheldon Williams, Swift is expendable. Maybe we can trade him for a 2 to Atlanta or NJ or someone like that. I like Redick. I think he's worth a gamble. Big upside if he pans out. I'd like to have a defender like Eric Williams to sub in with him, but, hey, you get what you can get.
Other than draft, these are the best FA SG's coming up this offseason that I could find (Only unrestricted, without Player/Team options) Bonzi Wells, Sacramento Matt Harpring, Utah Ronald Murray, Cleveland DerMarr Johnson, Denver Voshon Lenard, Denver Jimmy Jackson, LA Lamond Murray, New Jersey Fred Hoiberg, Minnesota Eric Piatkowski, Chicago Shandon Anderson, Miami Stacey Augmon, Orlando Charles Smith, Portland Linton Johnson, New Jersey Reece Gaines, Milwaukee Devin Green, LA Lakers Devean George, LA Lakers Laron Profit, LA Lakers Qyntel Woods, New York Kareem Rush --- I'd be kinda interested in George, as he can shoot and play solid D, but the rest of this group is really suspect. Just a bad crop this year.
If we draft Shelden Williams, how about sending Stro to the Clippers for Cuttino? The Clips need a backup PF now that Wilcox is in Seattle. And Cuttino would give us scoring and defence at the SG position. Their salaries should be pretty close, though I haven't checked.
It would take Stro and Deke to get Mobley, RealGM Trade ID: 3029699. Doesn't sound that bad. But Deke was useful when Yao went down. We'd HAVE to activate Ewing at that point (j/k). Rox really should look at a back up center soon, so that the kid could get a year under Deke and Yao. Who knows how good a teacher Yao can be facing a rook.
The Houston Rockets most probably won't trade McGrady, and will definitely not even consider trading Yao. The rest, who wants them? The best we can do for next season is the draft and the FA list. If we could put all our money into the FA list (maybe netting us a 3rd scoring option), we might get something good. As much as I want the Rockets to win the big one next season, I don't think they are ready. The role players aren't good enough and our two superstars can only do so much (Yao is working tirelessly right now, how long can he sustain it?). It might be a couple seasons before we have the all around talent to win a title, unless we net a great draft pickup or FA, or trade... I really think we should take a good long look at everyone in the FA. Try and get a SG, then a PF, then a PG, and if last comes to last, just find a backup for T-Mac. Obviously whoever we pick up in the draft will be a rookie, and if they aren't as good as LeBron was his rookie season, they won't be a difference maker right away. If we could get someone like Mikael Pietrus, it would be nice. The guy has potential, but his talent is VERY rough around the edges. He is going to be a project, but he'd be dangerous in a full season of practicing and working on his game. Why not give Kareem Rush a chance? See if he'd be better than Frahm/Brunson/Head/Bogans/maybe even Wesley. I say, for next season, get Mike James/Cuttino Mobley back here as SG and/or Cassel at PG and we are good to go.
Hmm. i say we get sign George as free agent. (George can play SG or SF for tmac)[im pretty sure he'd want to come to houston]. trade Stro and Deke for Cuttino for our starting SG. get Joel Przyilla or Nene as FA for back up center. good? or heres something i dare to dream. get big Ben and play him as PF.
