You either love them or hate them.

I personally love them. I hadn't had a chance to listen to them much since the 1995 season because I've been in Austin ever since. However, after getting the league pass last year, I was fortunate enough to listen to them along with nearly all other broadcasting teams in the NBA. Calvin and Bill have by far the best combination of knowledge and entertainment. Are they the smartest? No, but they know their stuff and make me laugh at the same time.

However, I'm sure they annoy the hell out of other fans.

I have always liked Calvin and Bill because, along with having tremendous knowledge of basketball and the Rockets in particular, they have an amazing repoire. They are the only two broadcasting partners I have ever heard who sound like they genuinely (sp?) enjoy each others company.

They are bad. Murphy spends too much time talking about himself and both spend too much time questioning call after call after call. Worrell says too many inane things as well and always has regardless of whop he was broadcasting for (Astros included).

I like both of them, they seem to get along very nicely.I do admit that Calvin gets a tad animated and talkative, but overall the duo is fun to watch and listen to.

They certainly aren't your classic broadcasters. To me, they are the most entertaining duo I have ever heard. They are knowledgeable homers and that's okay with me. Worrell was annoying about 15 years ago doing sports. I think he took himself too seriously, but he's gotten over that. I think Calvin would do that to anyone.

I hate Worrell as an Astros' announcer, but love him as a Rockets' announcer.

calvin does have a grip on the game. but he is a tad too soulful for me. A few examples:

    Eating cookies on air?

"Sam 'Find me a small hole and I'll slip through it' Cassell"?

"Otis Thorpe has hands like backboards"

"He looked like he was running in cement Nikes"

"PUT HIM IN THE POPCORN MACHINE! PUT HIM IN THE POPCORN MACHINE!!"

    "skip-to-my-lieu move"

    "It's intresting, Bill..." (yes, intresting)

    the list goes on....

i'll give to murph, he does know the game. no doubt about that. and he is funny at times. but he goes overboard with it too many times. just tone it down a notch. like, no dancing on tape. no cookie eating on air. and do something about that damn widow's peak!!!!

was anyone else watching the game last year where bill got mad at calvin for spitting on him during the game and then calvin got all insulted and started yelling at bill and they spent the rest of the game in a huge fight, hardly talking to each other? it was amazing.

I love 'em, but not because they're the best at what they do.

I love 'em like an old pair of Levi's or mom's fried chicken and brown gravy.

    They're "comfort announcers."

    Some more famous Calvin quotes:

    "Now that's unfortunate Bill."

"That's what happens when you let a young team hang around and allow them to believe that they can win."

"I'm gonna wear my overalls and straw hat to the next game. I only wanna see blue collar basketball."

    and the ever so infamous...

"Ms Drexler if you show me the secret to how to get a good deal, I'll show you the secret to my good looks" - Bill Heard Chev.

I have noticed that when I watch a Rockets game with someone who is a fan of another team, they always HATE Bill and Calvin. But the best thing about them is how comfortable they are talking about the game, the players, or each other. When I watch a game it is usually with several friends and we talk about the game, the players' tattoos (all those words on Los), the calls (on Kenny while he's on the bench), or Calvin's manufactured widow's peak. Bill and Calvin are like two more buddies watching the game with you.

Anybody with League Pass knows they are not the elite in the league. Let me say though, they are FAR from the worst.

Calvin does get hyper, but he is enjoyable. He's almost the 180 degree opposite of "Clyde" Frazier (Knicks). They both make good observations, but Clyde is so low key it's incredible. I don't agree with all of his points, but I also enjoy Tommy Heinsohn (Celts).

The "comfortable" comment about Calvin & Bill is pretty accurate. I had almost forgotten about the on air "fight" - that was great.

"Wal-TER! Wal-TER! Do it all! Bill Worrell is watching you!"

-Calvin Murphy after a game-clinching shot by Walt Williams.

He's crazy, but I definitely laugh out loud.

Bill and Calvin are just great guys, When you talk about Rockets history these guys should always be mentioned. There are some days when I am down and Bill and Calvin's funny telecasts cheer me up. As far as who are the best 2 announcers. I would have to say after listening to every announcer possible from every NBA team the last 10 years that Chick hearn from the Lakers and Hot Rod Hundley from the Jazz are the best in the business.

I've said this many times before...the biggest problem I have with Calvin is he thinks HE is the show...and he's not. He is not why fans tune into games. He just likes to bask in the attention. Why else would he wear such bad suits? It's to get attention.

He as a lot of valuable insight to offer and does quite often. Bill can share part of the blame because he often sets up Calvin to start talking about himself.

As far as the radio goes, Peterson is good but Jim Foley is horrible. He is nothing more than a stat man and offers in relative insight to the game. May be the worst color commentator I have ever heard.

Murphy is one of the worst announcers out there. Horrible voice, wild and idiotic ramblings.

Worrell isn't exactly knowledgeable. For example, I don't remember who it was, but he spent half the game completely butchering a players name, then the public address announcer said the guys name correctly, and, suddenly, Worrell pronounced it right).

They're a bad, bad, bad pair.

Let me just sum it up in 1 simple sentence:

Bill and Calvin are tite

They're funny and insightful. Sure, Calvin does ramble about himself a lot, but I actually find that funny. Sometimes, those ramblings are actually kinda insightful also.

I think Dogbelly said it. Bill and Calvin are just 2 buddies watchin a game with u. And what's so bad about that?

BTW, the best commentators are my boy BILLY WALTON AND KEVIN HARLAN. Walton criticizes everybody, which I think is funny. And Kevin Harlan goes crazy whenever there's a tite play.
