I don't know if this article been posted as of yet.... its from the Orlando Sentinel.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The opinion of many league executives and agents is that the Magic could acquire good talent for McGrady, but not a player as good as him. Based on their views, here is a sampling of some viable trade options for Orlando's superstar:

McGrady to Phoenix for Joe Johnson, Maciej Lampe, Suns' 2004 lottery pick, 2 future 1st-round picks
Phoenix is under cap, so salaries wouldn't have to match. Magic would want Amare Stoudemire, but get real. Phoenix loves Johnson, but McGrady is better and also young. Magic can rebuild frontline, find point guard.

McGrady to Houston for Steve Francis
Others players would be required. Houston would need to find a point guard but would have another star to pair with Yao Ming. Francis would give Orlando an elite point guard, but trade is far from equal.

McGrady to Indiana for Al Harrington, Scot Pollard, Jamaal Tinsley, future picks
For this to happen, Magic would need to believe Harrington is a star. The other pieces are to match salaries and provide the Magic with future flexibility. No doubt, Indiana gets the better of this trade.

McGrady to New Jersey for Kenyon Martin, 2 draft picks
It could happen if McGrady wants to play with Jason Kidd -- and if Kenyon Martin wants to leave New Jersey as a free agent. But who's the inside muscle for the Nets?

McGrady to Portland for Theo Ratliff, Zach Randolph, Blazers' 2004 lottery pick
Randolph's 20 points and 10 rebounds would rise in the East. Ratliff changes Magic to a defensive-minded team, and his salary comes off the books after next season.

McGrady to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kobe Bryant (sign and trade)
As good as it gets, but Bryant would rather enjoy free agency than agree to sign with the Magic.

McGrady to Dallas for Steve Nash (sign and trade), Josh Howard and Tony Delk
Magic would love to get Dirk Nowitzki, and perhaps that could happen. Magic never would take Antoine Walker or Antawn Jamison. Magic lose this trade, too, but at least they get a point guard, a rising wing player, more depth.

McGrady to Denver for Nene, Andre Miller
Denver has enough cap space to acquire McGrady and then go the free-agent route to find a new point guard and replacement inside. Magic would want Carmelo Anthony, but it wouldn't happen. Would McGrady stay in Denver, though?

McGrady to Memphis for James Posey, Pau Gasol and Bo Outlaw
Jerry West needs a star. McGrady and Mike Miller are still great friends. The Magic would receive a good 7-footer in Gasol but would have to take back Outlaw for a year.

McGrady to Miami for Lamar Odom and Caron Butler
Sure, Miami loves Lamar Odom, but Pat Riley is as big a McGrady fan as there is. Magic might want Dwyane Wade instead, but this is a decent deal despite Odom's sketchy past and Butler's past knee problem. The Heat would have to throw in another player to match salaries, though.

McGrady to Sacramento for Peja Stojakovic, Bobby Jackson
Sacramento would have to give more to match salaries, but these are the primary players in the deal. Stiff price for McGrady, but he's a star and the Kings need to do something if they don't win a championship this year. And this is an underrated good deal for Magic.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Knowing that the Magic would like to get rid of Gooden and TMac and rebuild, I was thinking a package of Francis/Mobley for McGrady/Gooden could get the deal done.... would that be fair to both teams? Who would be getting the better deal?

    Our lineup after the trade....

    C - Yao/Cato
    PF - Cato/Taylor/Weatherspoon
    SF - Gooden/JJ/Boki
    SG - Tmac/JJ/Piatkowski
PG - (Our 1st rd pick or 2nd rd pick- possibly Chris Duhon)/any free agent PG

If these are the chooses for Orlando, there is no way the trade will happen with Houston...It's one of the weaker deals, unless it were to involve MoT or Cato, and still it does not stack up to these othere attractive offers....the portland one is sick. The Memphis/Denver/NJ ones would help them the most IMO.

The Houston deal for them is probably not even in their top 5...

    1) Portland (Randolph, Ratliff & 2004 Lotter Pick)
    2) Lakers (Kobe)
    3) Denver (Nene & Miller)
    4) NJ (Martin, + 2 Draft Picks)
    5) Memphis (Posey, Gasol, Outlaw)
    6) Sacramento (Peja, Jackson, Plus More)
    7) Miami (Odom & Butler)
    8) Phoenix (Joe Johnson, Maciej Lampe, Suns' 2004 lottery pick, 2 future 1st-round picks)
    9) Dallas (Nash, Howard, Delk)
    10) Houston (Francis, Plus More)
    11) Indiana (Harrington, Pollard, Tinsley)

Too bad none of these trades talk about accepting Grant Hills contract. It will come up in some of the trade discussions or come up in a sparate trade. Francis + Cato and TE and 1rst rounder if needed is enough to get Tmac and Hill. If Tmac will be traded then expect the Orlando to dump Hill anyway they can.

    Straight up, it's unfair.

But the Francis, Mobley and Cato for McGrady and Hill deal is better than anyone can offer but Phoenix.

IMO, best thing would be to acquire Al Harrington from the Pacers via Mobley or the TE, then package Harrington and rancis for McGrady.

You gotta be kidding me... #10? Francis and Mobley (The #1 back court in the West) for Tmac is arguably the best deal out there for the Magic. Francis and Mobley would cause havoc in the East. Francis is close to being a superstar... while the others mentioned (besides Kobe) in the trades are close to being just stars.

Phoenix doesn't have the best offer, Portland does, but they wouldn't trade their big man the year he gets good in the West where size is king. If they would've kept Rasheed then maybe they would've made this trade. Orlando would be the most compeptitive and drawing fans with Steve/Cato/whoever else they have left. Maybe Hill? And since we we'd have our new sg, it'd be best to try and hold out on Mobley and swap him for Harrington if possible. Mobley wont play bench again until he's past his prime.

I'm not so sure any pick in the draft couldn't help us, especially this year with record setting numbers of high schoolers and the amount of Euros. There're plenty of college guys left not getting any attention. Even a guy like Duhon who wasn't horrible in college but he's projected 2nd round. There's always surprises. We should try to improve depth wise for the future ala Detroit and Indiana. We already have Nachbar.

    1) Portland (Randolph, Ratliff & 2004 Lotter Pick)

won't happen. One reason why they traded off Rasheed was that Randolph is becoming their centerpiece...and trading 2 bigs AND a draft pick for a guard? I don't think so...not in today's Western Conference

    2) Lakers (Kobe)
like the writer said..Kobe would rather go FA then agree to sign with the Magic

    3) Denver (Nene & Miller)
there is no way this combo is better than a combo of Francis and Cato

    4) NJ (Martin, + 2 Draft Picks)
Nets would be a Donut team..actually a Ring team--NOTHING AT ALL in the middle

    5) Memphis (Posey, Gasol, Outlaw)
West would rather trade for Kobe

    6) Sacramento (Peja, Jackson, Plus More)
Sacto would send off Webber before they send off Peja

    7) Miami (Odom & Butler)
Miami got to the playoffs without McGrady...so why do this?

    8) Phoenix (Joe Johnson, Maciej Lampe, Suns' 2004 lottery pick, 2 future 1st-round picks)
A trade with PHX would start and end with either Marion or Amare

    9) Dallas (Nash, Howard, Delk)
so then the Magic would have Nash, Howard, Delk, Lue at the guard positions...all undersized even in the east. and the Mavericks would be PG less....

    11) Indiana (Harrington, Pollard, Tinsley)
I doubt Carlisle much less Bird would do this..hell i doubt the magic would do this

    and now back to us

it's not hard to see that we can be the most realistic trading partner. hell, throw in Grant hill too and it would still be ok. they not only get Francis but they get Cato in return. Cato is no slouch nowadays. In the east, he can be a pretty good center. And then the fillers that would need to be added (draft pick? mobley?) would be the icing on the cake. Although the popular rumor right now is Dallas shipping off Walker to the Magic for Hill and the #1...which would make the Magic into the Celtics pre-2003/2004 season...

all in all...we have the most realistic proposal...if it's ever a proposal at all.

McGrady has just become overrated. I think he's a great player and all, but some of these trades are a bit too generous.

on the contrary none of these trades are too generous. every single one of the teams would benefit from the trade. maybe denver and new jersey less. but he makes each team better.

Orlando should take the Sun's deal and run. Orlando and the Suns should have real high picks you should have a nice nucleus of JJ and two high picks as long as you pick right.

no way. lampe hasn't developed. joe johnson is not even an all star, let alone superstar. you are wagering everying on draft picks. too risky.
