The question is how ClutchFan's feel about Troy Daniels'. As we have seen before (with our very own Jeremey Lin), confidence can make a player play beyond their normal production. So was Daniels' play something we can expect routinely, or was he on an emotional high? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/9RbzDdyiiW4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
No. I can sense he's going to suck. Trade him now while he's values is high. And that pick we gonna get is a bust.
Daniels is known as a dead-eye 3-point shooter. Lin was not. Daniels is capable of shooting around 40% from 3 consistently. Lin is not. Being a great 3-point shooter means being a good shooter consistently. That's what sets them apart. They can do it over and over and over again. Other 3-point shooters are more streaky. They can have stretches where they are lights-out... but then they can also have stretches where they can't hit anything (Lin, Garcia, etc.) Since Daniels is a dead-eye shooter, he can keep the consistency whereas Lin cannot keep up shooting 40%.
Here is what I think the next Ray Allen would not be passed on by so many teams. He played 4 year college ball, so he is not unknown. Don't get your hopes too high.
I don't see why his 3-point shot will suddenly elude him next year and beyond. And he certainly doesn't lack in confidence. The key is to have an actual offensive system that allows him to get open looks. Like the way Reggie Miller, Rip Hamilton, and Ray Allen would run around picks and screens to get a clean look at the basket. The moment Portland started keying in on Daniels after Games 3 and 4, his offense vanished because the Rockets don't run anything but ISO.
dude no1 is saying he is going to become a hall of famer you can be a really good 3 point specialist without having to be ray allen ok
I don't know who called him the next Ray Allen here besides maybe you. But if that's your expectation of him for sure you're going to be sorely underwhelmed. That's not what the OP is asking from what I see. Pretty much, is he going to stay in the rotation with consistency or is he gonna suck. He clearly has a good feel for the game and knows his role as a 3 point specialist off the bench based on his body of work in the D-League and limited time with us. You could also tell he was doing his best to improve his defense from game to game in order to stay on the floor. I feel like he'll be a solid role player with overall improvement throughout his game. Just like anybody else would. Except dead eye shooters are definitely hot commodities in this league almost as much as top 7 footers who can at least play D.
The Rockets won game 5 easily with Lin carrying the load at backup PG and finally havign a good game and Daniels played only 9 minutes in game 6, likely becaues McHale thought Lin's performance would carryover from Game 5, and because Harden was finally in beast mode. I don't think Portland all of a sudden solved the mystery by keying on him, whatever that means. I mean if they didn't htink he could make an outside shot if left open before Game 1, 2, 3, and 4, that is a massive failure by their coaching staff.
People see Ray Allen as he is now a spot up shooter. Early in his career Allen was an all around player and could attack the basket and shot from all over the place. I see Troy being more of a specialist type player and continue his roll with the right lineup and make threes.
Troy Daniels' ceiling might be Kyle korver, but I see him being more like an Anthony Morrow type player
People know what his only skill is now. And his defense is rather subpar. He will get minutes but he would never start in the NBA.
He has been absolutely impressive. Usually rookie players making a transition from D-League to NBA look absolutely shell shocked on the floor. He seemed calm and composed. Knew exactly what his role was.
I don't think his shot will suddenly leave him. I think the rest of his game is the liability. It's always good to have a shooter, but they need to do passably well in the rest of the game as well. I'll take the under.
