I had one question about the Dallas Maverick organization, personally i think that the organization is going no were because i dont know if he Marc Cuban puts tvs and Dvds in the locker room but maybe hes too of a fan? and has no respect for players like J howard , Tim Bug and so on.. And also like what he said too Wang..
He didn't say that about Wang, Finley did. Read the article. http://dallasbasketball.com/headline_b.asp?pr= As for the other players you mentioned ... Is Cuban not suppose to make trades that would make the team better just because Timmy, and Juwan are nice guys? I think the fact that he's not scared to make trades is what will make the team better not vise versa.
Dallas will never go anywhere in their current form because their big three have no clue how to play defense. Nash has no defensive potential at all since he small and kinda slow on defense. Nitwitz has no lateral quickness to speak of so can't cover the three and he is a little weak to cover the Power Forwards in the West. Finley is over rated and can't defend the 2's in the league very well. I can see Finley getting trade in the next year or two for defensive minded 2 or 3 and a defensive big man. Also something else to add. Nellie's teams have never ever had good defenses nor has ever had a good post player.
Well hell, they might as well just blow the whole team up since they all suck. Also in saying that All of Nellie's teams have sucked on defense ... ever hear of the Milwaukee Bucks when they had Bill Lambier, and Sidney Moncreif? Guess who coached that team, and guess how many times they finished as one of the top defensive teams in the NBA?
I didn't say blow the team up but I do think they need to trade Finley and or Van Exel for someone that can play a hint of defense. Nitwitz scored 37 points the other night and the Mavs still lost to the Pistons. That is just pitiful.
This is a bad joke, right? Finley is underrated.. He's one of the best post-up guards in the league, and he is an excellent defender. "Trade Finley for someone who can play a hint of defense?" You're not even saying he's an average defender, you're saying he's a really bad defender? I'm sorry, that's just funny. What are you watching? Besides in the NBA, he was the ONLY team USA player who played well on both ends of the floor at the Worlds. BTW, Finley didn't play in the game you spoke of.
I think what you just said is a perfect example of why Don Nelson is sometimes overated. His whole philosphy is to just outscore people. Remember Run TMC? He was also the same way in Milwaukee when Ricky Pierce was there in the 80s. Coincidentally, I cant remember any of his teams playing for a conference championship, must less an NBA finals.
Finley is far from an excellent defender. Along with Spree, his defense is vastly overrated. Finley is a good defender, which makes him easily the best on the Mavs.
The best on the Mavs isn't saying much. I just haven't been impressed when I've seen him play. I'm not saying he's a terrible player but just over rated.
The arguement against this sort of thing is that creating a real NBA team is more difficult than putting the 5 best players together. The Rockets championship teams, the Pistons championship teams, and the Bulls championship teams all spent a while together for a while and underwent only minor tweaking before their big run. Also, most of these teams had 2 major offensive guys, a third part-time offensive guy, and a bunch of role players. The Mavs break the mold again in this respect. Also, whether it's true or not, the accusition is that Cuban is treating his roster with the finesse of a NBA 2k3 franchise mode game on the playstation. Players, as people, might think twice in the future about signing a long term deal in Dallas if they realise that there's no feeling of stability or commitment, and they might get traded to some perenial loser the moment a better deal comes along. Again, I don't know whether these things are true or not. I don't think anybody's ever quite managed an NBA team the way Cuban does. It'll be intresting to see if it works longterm.
When you look at the moves (or lack there of) the Mavs have made this offseason they seem to be doing exactly what those teams you named have done. They made no major changes, and will field basically the exact same team as last year.
