In a nutshell, looking for a place to live in neartown as the folks at Archstone Memorial Heights are being asses and Im out on 10/20 (lease ends).

Now a family friend has offered me to stay in her apartment, which she is leaving. She is a senior citizen and everything would remain under her name for the discounts, meaning the rent would be $150 a month and next to Downtown. Sounds unbeatable right?

    One problem.

    Its Allen Parkway Village.

Im a lil nervous about that. But she's in the newer unit towards the front and has lived there for a few years, no problems. And my sister used to live in the older units and had no problems either.

So whaddya think ...yea or nea.

150 a month? How old was she? That's like double senior citizen discount.

My lease is up and they are jacking up the rent by more than $300 for the same unit we've lived in for more then 2 years. And we've (me & roomie) have never given problems or paid rent late. Talk about a real thank you huh....

    Isn't it public housing?

I would move to some of the cheap places in the med center before there.

    That sucks.

For that complex, that must be at least a 15-20% increase.

I hear they're trying to price people out of them so they can tear them down and build something nicer/pricier.

I dont know how she has it like that but apparently she does. When she comes back form Mexico this week, I'll get to see the place and get the complete story. But her son pays the rent and that's the amount paid monthly.

Thats un-heard-of cheap and could help me save a massive amount of money in the long run. As long as Im safe ....that's my only concern.

Ive heard the same rumors from others at the complex. And with the way that area is building up and its location, (On Washington between Heights & Studemont) I feel is only a matter of time before the wrecking ball comes in... that land is too valuable for a complex like this.

I'm thinking Archstone will eventually tear down and replace with lofts like their Ballpark Lofts project, except it will be a lil more West Ave-ish with street level retail and bars.

Lived at Archstone for 5 years.....loved it until they pulled the same crap with jacking the rent. They are notorious for that. Also that fat latina girl that used to work in the office was such a b****, Carolina or something.
