I will actively try to reduce time spent outside of my home or work place now. I used to work late and take the bus home; won't be doing that anymore. At least HEB will allow me to shop for groceries safely. The governor signed the bill at a shooting range You might say that there shouldn't be much difference between concealed and open carry situations. I can't accept that.
I hope many others adopt your "staying at home the hell out of my way" policy due to irrational and hilarious fear, I'm not a big fan of huge crowds.
I certainly would, but let's be serious, that's not actually going to happen. As of January 1st, open carry will be legal in all but 4 states and DC, if you include those states that require permits but don't actually issue those permits you can tack on 4 more. Take an Ativan and try to relax, open carry isn't going to cause it to be the wild west.
Imagine Black Friday or any other crazy holiday shopping event...I'd hate someone standing too close to me especially if i'm caring a weapon on a holster (btw which i dont..but have zero qualms about those who chose to be armed). I really dont expect too much to change.
Apologies, my count was wrong, Texas will be the 45th state to have open carry meaning there will be 5 others where it is still banned plus DC not 4. There's already 25 states where open carry is legal and you don't even need a permit. Again, it's not going to be the end of the world.
Clearly I am exaggerating and being dramatic with this OP, but I would have preferred to keep that single step of concealing a weapon. The main reason being: it's just one more step for a weapon holder to actively think about the fact that they are carrying a deadly weapon, and that they must carry it responsibly. I don't worry about licensed gun holders as much as I do other people who now see more guns around them and may jump on opportunities to take/steal these more visibly numerous weapons. Granted that 45 states have permissive and licensed open carry now, and I don't have numbers to show that this particular concern is at all relevant by the stats. But it is worrisome to think about for me. Edit: a similar thought to what sugarlandkid just posted
Fair enough. I mean, I'm certainly not going to openly carry because I see no reason for it, but I just don't think it'll make much difference one way or the other. I've lived in states with open carry, even open carry without a license and it was never an issue there.
I wouldn't say being afraid of seeing people openly brandishing lethal weapons is irrational or hilarious.
I would. Are you afraid every time you see a cop? They openly brandish lethal weapons. It seems an odd reason to be afraid.
Not afraid of the responsible firearm owners who will carry with a holster (or even continue to conceal carry). Just afraid of the morons. It is what it is now, I don't really care. Its like how people hate stoner culture, but said people might be smokers themselves. Gun culture is absolutely nuts.
Would you be afraid of those people? You do realize that openly carrying long rifles has never been illegal in Texas right? Of all the things to fear, those guys aren't high on the list at all.
Good point, people who plan on openly carrying need to understand that they have to be careful around police so as to not end up getting shot. If you are openly carrying, and you make a sudden move when a cop stops you, odds are you will be killed and it won't be murder. With freedom comes responsibility.
I know it's 100% accurate, which is why open carry is a 100% horribly stupid idea. You probably shouldn't realize that.
Is it a problem in the other 44 states that have it? I mean, maybe think about it a little bit harder and get back to me.
