Wanted to post this because of a discussion haven and i were having. The makers of OOTP 4 are offering 500 MB of server space for leagues. They will give you a domain name and the space. The catch is you have to have 12 people buy the game and show them 12 unique purchase ID's. We kinda like the idea of getting the space for our league because haven does not have that capicity on our current server. One advantage could be the addition of storing game logs and possibly some new features from version 4 . Haven is also considering letting us use the Import roster function, pending we can feasibly do it and that it does not create a disadvantage for people without the game. We need to act fast on this if we are going to try and get it. Server space is limited. We need to try and find out if there are 12 of us planning on buying the game. This will not affect any owners that don't buy the game. We are not making that a requirement to be in the league or anything. If you plan on getting the game and we can use your name in our quest to get the server space please post a message below. The game is officially going to be released at 12 am on March 1. I will be getting a copy as will Haven. we now just need to find 10 others. CK
You can get hosting with 500 MB of server space for under $99 year (around $8/month)... wouldn't that be cheaper?
Well only if you are giving me $99 a year. with this we get it from people buying the game. Something they would be doing anyway(which is why i asked who in the sim is buying it. Since several people mentioned their interest in an earlier thread). It shares the cost. if we had to by space it would end up one person paying the money. Theoretically we could split the cost but logistically it would be a nightmare. CK
I will certainly get the game as long as it will run on my computer. Does anyone know the system requirements that it will have, or at least what OOTP 3 had? Also, is the only way to order it online? Or will it be in stores? I like the whole idea of it, especially the roster feature. The only bad thing about it would be that it would limit our number of owners, because I doubt anyone else would join if they had to buy the game.
Answers to above questions: 1) It will be online purchases only. They did that to cut down on costs. Thats why it is only $30. You purchase it online and they liscense you to put it on 3 computers at a time. 2) Not sure on version 4 requirements but they should not be high. It is a text based game so it does not require much to run the gamebut below are the requirements for OOTP3. I will post the requirements for 4 as soon as i see them. * 486 or higher processor (Pentium TM recommended) * 16 MB RAM or higher * 80 MB free hard disk space * 1 MB or higher video card * We recommend a 1024*768 Windows screen resoultion * Windows 95/98/2000 TM compatible system * DirectX 7 TM or higher * OOTP3 does not work with Windows NT TM, because DirectX 7 TM cannot be installed 3) We are not requiring anyone buy it for our league. Haven is going to run the league as it currently is. 4) There is not going to be a Mac version as far as I know.
Everybody has to have the game to play in the league? If not, I was just saying that it's cheaper for everyone to pay $8 once a year or something, but if you guys can't get on the same page, I see what you're saying. And I didn't know everybody was buying the game.
I got ya now. We are keeping the game as is where haven is doing the games and all. He just doesn't have a ton of server space and would like to have more. I knew from earlier there were several people looking to buy the game just to have for themselves(totally seperate from anything with our league) so i wanted to see if there would be 12 people getting the game. CK
To clear up any confusion!!!!!!!!!!!! You do not have to buy OOTP4 to be in the League!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just trying to see who is planning on buying it for their own personal use, outside of the league. If enough people buy it(and again you do not have to) then we can get our own domain and free server space from the makers of the game. That is something Haven would like to do. So i want to find out who is buying the game so I will know if we qualify for the free server space. And let me close with this.... You do not have to buy freaking OOTP4 to stay in Haven's sim!!!!
Ok Since the game comes out Friday morning I wanted to bump this back up to the top. These are the definite buyers and if anyone else is getting it please post below 1) Castor 2)Haven 3) Nomar 4) DrewP 5) Raven possibles 6) DHR 7)Smallz We still need 5 more for the free space. CK If you want any info on the game go here: www.ootp4.com
For DHR Updated System Requirements for OOTP4 * Operating System: Windows 98 or higher. OOTP 4 will NOT run on Windows NT because of it's missing DirectX support. OOTP 4 is tested with Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. * Processor: 166 MHz or higher Intel Pentium, Cyrix 6x86, or AMD K6 * Hard Drive Space: 60 MB minimum hard drive space free (plus additional space for saved games and/or optional historical database) * Memory: 32 MB RAM (64 MB recommended) * Video: High Color (65,535 color) capable 4 MB PCI or AGP video card with DirectDraw compatible driver, 1024x768 minimum screen resolution * Other Requirements: DirectX 7.x or higher, keyboard, mouse * Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or higher or Netscape Navigator 4.x or higher required to view HTML reports; Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or higher required to view online manual * Internet connection: Note that an Internet connection via an internet service provider (ISP) is required for some online league features Comments The most common problem users have is that DirectX 7.0a or higher isn't installed on their system. Make sure your system has DirectX installed! There are no critical changes made inside your Windows registry when you install OOTP 4. OOTP 4 will NOT run on Windows NT because of the missing DirectX support of the OS. Each league needs at least 30 MB of free HD space, so please make sure you have enough space. We suggest not to run the game when there are other applications running in the background. OOTP loads the entire league into system memory, therefore it is important to have as much free memory as possible. The more RAM you have, the faster the game will run!
this word straight from the developers mouth : I have decided to code an Apple Macintosh Version of Out of the Park Baseball 4 after the release of the PC version So, if you have a friend who owns a Mac and no PC and who is looking for a baseball sim, spread the word! Does anybode know of a system for the Mac that's similar to eLicense?
http://www.ootp4.com/ Apparently it's out? Anyway, there's a link to buy and d/l it on that page, but I haven't tried it yet. Will probably get it tonight. ** UPDATE ** Oh well, the link says it won't be ready till tomorrow. They just have the link up. Oh well... hang in there for 1 more day guys.
Depending on if/when I am employed I will be buying a copy. Do you have idea what kind of deadline there is on this? Altough I still think it sucks that you are requiring all sim leaguers to buy this just to play. Hell I heard a rumour that BGM was gonna make buying this a requirement for his friggin basketball sim. Way to go guys...
