I have been playing Texas Hold 'Em for a number of years and have recently ramped it up pretty seriously. Play once a week in a live game and everyday online at Pokerroom.com (MulderFox) since it is one of the few that works with Mac OS X. I'm seriously considering playing online for real money soon. I have played in the free rolls (no entry fee, but can win real money) and done pretty well.

How many of you guys play online?
If so, where do you play?
Do you play for real money or just play for fun?

ive started playing on pokerstars.com and i'm basically a beginner at hold em. i do have other skills that help at poker and gambling so its an easier game for me to pick up. i started a $50 account and lost about half before i got the hang of betting with real money online. playing in the tournaments is a lot easier than just a regular room. i like playing for actual money since it makes it more fun and game play more realistic. people b**** about getting bad beats on different sites but its no different than in real life.

i'd say if you are pretty experienced and under control then its not a terrible idea to start playing for money online.

I played for real money once. I put in $25, got up to $40, and then lost it all. I think you can win online, but the truth is, you really don't know if you are playing a group of buddies or not. You would never know. So you just have to hope it is legit when you are playing. Otherwise they will take your money. At any rate it is fun.

If you are good at math and know the odds very well, then playing online is a good way to get cash. If you are better at reading people's expressions and moods, and can get people to fold, then playing at the casino is probably better, and more fun.

I only play at casinos. Maybe twice a month. I've been playing all throughout college and over 5 years now. The only reason I don't play online is the fact that it requires A LOT of time and patience that I don't have. Plus, I rather not get sucked into the world of gambling. Gambling is only a hobby of mine. I don't want it to control me.

This was one of my main concerns but I don't think it happens too much, especially at lower blind no limit tables. I just have been playing and winning a ton online at free tables (from 1K up to 90K in a couple of months, winning a lot of STT's and SNG's). I know that if that was all I was doing it would be a bad guage for real money play. But I have also been doing pretty well against guys live that play online, winning pretty consistently, not huge bank rolls, but very steady consistent amounts week to week.

Now if only they didn't make it so damn difficult to get a real money account. I might have to set something up with ING online. They won't take credit cards for deposits anymore and there is no way I am giving them access to my bank account as was their other suggestion.

    i play at pokerstars ... (3814).

i've also played in a few canadian poker tournaments, placing 18th outta 132 and 32 outta 250...just out of the money each time.

but yeh, it's a hobby of mine, can be expensive at times and can easily pay off at other times. just play smart.

I play everyday for real money on Pokerstars. I stick to the $25 Sit and Go touneys ( 9 players, top 3 are in the money). and it pays my rent every month. Word of advice, stay away from the cash games online, it's a quick way to lose money, considering alot of guys will call all the way through the river hoping to catch cards. Also, in the cash games, people tend see a flop on any hand.

I play on PartyPoker 4-5 times a week and if you can handel the suckouts its the best place to play on the net. Party is very fishy compared to some of the other sites and IMO the 2/4 and 3/6 games are very soft. Play tight and solid and you should have no trouble coming out on top.

I would suggest checking out the site below before you make any real money deposits to maxmize your bankroll. There is alot of free money to be claimed and while I don't chase every single bonus out there you should at least get all thats coming to you on the 1 or 2 sites you choose to play on. Hope this helps....

I also play at Pokerroom.com. I have gotten up to 100k in fake money a few times and then I lose it. I tried real, didn't work out too well, I've lost $60. In the casinos I'm up like a $200 bucks though. I find it easier face to face with people for some reason, maybe because I concentrate more and dont read clutchfans.net while playing.

Yeah its a pain depositing real money. You have to go to one of those cash services like Neteller and deposit from your bank account.

i'm in the same boat and play just as often. 2/4 is my main game and it's extremely soft. i've got the bankroll to move up to 3/6 but i can tell i'm still a bit gunshy at the level. scared money is losing money so maybe if i can get another 1k in my BR i'll finally hit 3/6 hard.

Same here. My bankroll could easily support me playing 5/10 or even 10/20 and for a time was playing at those limits but like you have I have been playing pretty much 2/4 and 3/6 the past 5 months or so. I find those games to be so much easier that I think there is more money to be made at those limits.

I have been crushing the 2/4 games while bonus clearing and while I would normally go back up to 3/6 I am going to stay at 2/4 as long as the games are this live.

What's your name on Party...I'll keep an eye out for you? My main account is JennyLuLu88. (People play different against the ladies :D )

Along the same lines, I chose the most sophmoric name I could think of, and everyone treats me like some 13-year old with his parents' credit card. I love it.

That's awesome that you make enough for rent! What is the payout for the top 3 on Pokerstars?
That's the kind of Limit game you want isn't it?

I play a lot of partypoker mixed: SnGs (5, 10, 20), Limit and NL Hold Em. I think its probably better to stick to one format at first. While it rounds out your overall game to do so, I think it hurts your return in the short run. Unless you consistently win at them all of course ;).

i'm on there as imjaksrage. i play on the eurobet skin. it's the same server just that i can't access some PP tables like the bad beat ones (don't play on those anyways). as for the "girly" name, i never thought of that. maybe i'll shoot eurobet an email and see if i can change it. doubtful, since they haven't answered my last email i sent 2 months ago.

do you use any rakebacks? i was introduced to these by a good friend of mine and man, it adds significantly to your profit.

Most of the sites I try "refresh" my connection way too frequently...which makes it annoying for me and even more so for the random people I play with. I am on a wireless connection, but have 11.0 MBps. Any thoughts on how to improve this?

sounds like it's got more to do with your connection than the site.

I play at pokerroom.com. I found that it is the best place to play. One important factor is what it takes to deposit and cash out at other sites like party poker. You can cash out and deposit as little as 10 dollars, whereas party poker is something like 50. Plus, pokerroom pays neteller's cost so that you can get your money quick within 2 business days. Pokerroom has the best freerolls available. Works with macs, good traffic. All in all I wouldn't play anywhere else. I especially don't understand the whole 50 cash out thing. It's like your giving them fifty dollars unless you want to deposit more in just so you have enough to cash out. I am a low limit 10-30 dollar a week player. I'm not going to deposit 50 at a time nowhere.

At the $25 Sit and Go, $45 for 3rd, $67 for second and $113 for first.

That's what I thought, but it seemed like I was always getting sucked on people catching miraculous inside straights on the river. Maybe I just jad bad luck, but with my success at SnG, I doubt I'll ever go back.
